Wiikey suddenly not working?

A few days ago, my Wiikey suddenly stopped working. I can't play burned Wii games anymore, but legit games still play. Here are the steps leading up to this...

Installed 1.9g to play Super Mario Galaxy.
Inserted Super Mario Galaxy and installed Wii update.
Wii firmware now reports 3.1U.
Everything works fine for a few days. I can play all my burned games and legit games.
Suddenly, 2 days ago, the Wii stops reading burned games.

Anybody know what happened?

It happens sometimes, my wiikey sometimes works sometimes it doesn't so try again later & it may work

Nope, still doesn't work. It's been days. It won't even load any Wiikey firmware discs.

Take it apart and look closely at the solder points on your mod . Best to use a magnifying glass. Whats your living environment like? Maybe someone else who has access or is around the console knocked it over, didn't/hasn't told you, and in the process broke a solder point on the mod.

Usually, when a unit works fine but no longer acts modded in any way, thats because it no longer is.

Worst case is a failed mod chip that needs replacing and best case is a .5 sec tap on a broken solder point with an iron.

Try turning it completely off by unplugging it then plug it back in and try that.

An update needs a full reset, not just a standby reset.

Read his post. He said everything worked fine for a few days after the updates. The software updates can't reverse themselves once installed and validated through use as working properly.

It's a mod problem. He's probably taking it apart right now to see what failed

this problem is becoming more and more common

seems to be something to do with the 1.9G firmware and SMG

its more severe in my case, backups and originals stopped working, thought it might have been the wiikey, so removed it, no joy

thought my laser might have died, so installed a new one, no joy

seems no one knows any fixes or why this is happening

Wow I had no idea. I followed that link above and read all the horror stories. OK so maybe it isn't a hardware problem. At least from a mod chip install point of view.

So far I'm one of the lucky ones. I did the updates to be able to play a SMG backup and no problems here. I have an original Wii bought during the release week. I have an original Wiikey bought shortly after they came out and it's been a good week if not two and everything is working as expected after the updates. All backups (that I made months ago) and all originals read and perform without any problems.

It'll be interesting to eventually hear whats caused this. Among different mod chips no less. It sounds like it's not just isolated to the Wiikey only. Someone should do some polls to get some stats. How many total have updated versus how many of those have been suffering the problems being reported.

Its quite possible and sounding very probable that our friends at Nintendo threw in some funny code with the last update knowing that wouldn't get all the modders but enough of a percentage of them to at least put a little dent in the community.

And the funny thing is Nintendo actually warns us right there in black and white that the update may render the console unusable if modded (paraphrasing...I don't remember the exact words) and we all still do it anyway.

Classic!

I think nintendo really did their homework on this one,

think about it mario is game they can be sure 90% or console owners will want to play.

my wii was also a launch date wii and wiikey, same as my friends who also has the same problem now.

also with mine, when i did the 1.9G update i never used the 1.3 wiikey setup disk after to turn region override on as i never knew the firmware cleared the settings, but my ntsc copy of smg still worked so not sure what happened there..

i've sent plenty of messages to wiikey guys with no response and im sure alot of other people are doing teh same, lets hope they are on the ball and at least say something in the news section of the wiikey.cn webpage

Same wiikey as yer friend? Maybe a bad clone? Bad modder whose soldering now cracks? LOTS of people have perfectly fine wiikeys so I really doubt it's something as general as 1.9G, cuz then everyone should have problems. And not just after a few days..

Is it possible that D2B chipsets are to blame? I have D2A and mine is still (knock on wood) working, so I am wondering if there is something to this! Can people post on what chipset they have and whether or not theirs is working?
