Lightbulb Slim 1200 mAh battery (PSP-s110) - Hardware Pandora mod w/ Pictures

I bought my Piano Black PSP slim about eight hours ago, and it's now running 3.60 M33, thanks to this forum and others like it.

However, I was pretty much flying blind when it came to hard modding the battery. I've seen plenty of good technical pictures of the phat batteries, but nobody seems to know what's inside the slim.

So once I made sure everything was working, I took some pictures. Hopefully this thread will help everybody else who may be confused about the 1200 mAh battery.

Once you get the case separated, this is what you see. The board is totally different from the phat batteries.

The board's facing down, and flips up to reveal the chips.

This plastic piece separates the board from the battery itself. It's not attached to anything, it just lifts right out.

Close up of the board. You can see the chip that needs attention in the far right-hand side of the board.

This is the leg that must be detached (circled). I went ahead and just cut the leg off, since I have a 2200 mAh battery and I've ordered this. That, and I don't know how to desolder.

The board connects to the battery via these two metal strips. They're big and easy to get to - if you're really paranoid about shorting out the battery, you could just cut these and work on the board itself, without a voltage source.

This is what the back looks like.

Anyway. If anybody has questions I'll do my best to answer them, although I'm awful new at this myself.

Sorry if I'm a bit thick today but what does this mod achieve?

Oh, and you desolder with a desoldering pump (solder sucker) or some copper braid.

This is a hardware mod for a JigKick Battery (aka Pandora Battery).
Not recommended for inexperienced people though.

It took me a while, but what I ended up doing was running the blade down the seam between the halves over and over. Not applying much pressure, just enough to cut it a little bit more. Eventually I broke through. At that point I slid a guitar pick through the seam and slid that down the edge of the battery, breaking all the glue and stuff. I had to do that for all four sides.

It takes patience, but you can get it open eventually.

The thing that you have done now is...... making your slim battery pretty useless.

Next time build a switch between those legs, then you'll have a switchable Pandora battery
Owns the following gaming stuff:
PSP ceramic white 3.90M33-3 with two 2GB sandisk sticks (BIG Thanks to Dark_aleX and others)
Xbox360 with Hitachi 046 with iXtreme firmware (Thanks to garyopa maximus c4e) 3RL

I saw at this topic: http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthr...t=94109&page=2 , the pic below for an alternative instead of cutting the pin :

It seems an easy option.

A friend of mine just did that to his PSP slim battery (same one as in photos, but its made in china) and it doesn't work as of now.

He said it didn't power up, and then the power light just started blinking.

To cut that, you must cut over the green board, and that could cause problems if you scratch it? I told him no, because i didn't think it would if it was a little scratch

I'm not sure where he is right now, but when i talk to him i will ask him to remove the section instead of just cutting it and update you.

has anybody else had success with cutting that?

I used the cut PCB method. Just scrap a small section of the circuit and you are done. My battery is still working.

its the best way if you want to reconvert it as a regular battery, you only have to use a pencil to get the path back

When there is a hole in the battery cell I'll stick with the 3x AAA ;-).
