My Mod'd Cube!!

Here's my case, built from 2mm perspex. To avoid messy brackets, i've used a hot glue gun to stick the pieces together and its held really well.

I've changed the power led to a super bright blue and fitted 4 super bright 5mm LED's to the corners of the case where the original screw holes are that held on the original case.

To make the ports glow, i've fitted 4 5mm LED's of varying colours and drilled out the port number dots above the ports to illuminate the ports from the front.

The normal holes are drilled out as per the orignal case with the exception of a rectangular slot on the reverse of the cube for the viper programmer to sit - which also sits nicely into a space at the rear of the cube.

The new cube dimensions are larger than the original unit to accomodate full size disks, which it does with ease and to finish and avoid a tacky lid opening mechanism with a magnet as several people have used, i've ceated a perspex ledge with top rails to enable the lid to slide open.

I was going to fit a mechanism to flick the power switch on and off but with the lid being the full width of the case, it has proved easier and tidyer to flick the power switch on through the lid - this also makes the lines of the cube look smoother.

The ciube is bolted into the case using pre-drilled holes in the existing cube base and using screws through the perspex base. I am planning to fit small rubber feet to the base to finish off but have not done this yet.

THe only problem with the super bright LED's is that they are a bit too bright and glare a little, not to mention making 2 blue semicircles on the ceiling when you turn it on! Can't have it all!

Very good job!

It looks very nice, and I like it. The thing I would personally do is cloud the plexi, as I do not like the complete see through all that much.

If you are interested in doing that, there is some glass clouding stuff available in spray cans, and you just spray it on(preferably on the inside) like you would if you were painting the case.

It looks very nice after it is completely sprayed, and the LEDS would look awesome shining through it.

Could you take a few more pictures of it, from different angles and whatnot? I would like to see more of it

Thanks for the post, its good to know other peeps opinions in the modding scene.

Might consider frosting the plastic, could definitely do with calming down the glare of the bulbs.

More pics coming...
