Torn optical ribbon

So in the process of taking apart my wii to install my mod chip, my hand slipped
and I discovered that I had torn the ribbon to the optical drive. It would not be
a big deal if I knew where to get another ribbon, however I do not.
I am hoping someone may be able to point me somewhere I may be able to
get a new ribbon.

It would be such a waste to brick my wii over one tiny little ribbon.

my advice would be t ask one of the guys in one of the many "OH GOD I KILLED THE WII" topics to send you theirs... not like they can use it if their wii is dead right?

I may actually have a resolution for you, may not be the cheapest tho

if you got an old DVD player in the house, pop her open and there should be the exact same cable ready to steal for your pleasure.

I havent tried to use one of these, but I know from the umpteen dvd players I have opened in my time all of them have the same tiny optical cable.

if you could harvest a part like this from an old dvd player I am sure
mouser.com would have the part. I have no way of telling what the part number
is though. Might anyone else know?

and right you are, you should be able to find it on mouse, I grabbed a spare one that I had (Kotobo brand) and looked it up, it's not on mouser itself, but found out that its called a "flat flexible cable"

mouser gives results when searching for it, but I dont know the exact match that would be for the Wii specifically (waiting for a triwing to get at my deep holes)

hope this helps

if you get really desperate, i have this one here which I think is 24 pins.. cant really tell its sooo hard for me to count the tiny pins and not go cross eyed

You need a 32 pin 0.5mm flat flex ribbon cable. Molex do them.

There's a forum topic on either here or some of the other forums I check out where someone posted a site that sells the cables (a little longer than the wii's, but it still works). If I can find the link, i'll post it. Time for bed now.

Thanks a ton Shroomie, but I am quite sure it has 32 contacts.
But with the type of cable I am sure I will be able to find one somewhere.

You guys are being such a great help, I really appreciate it.

After searching molex I can come close to finding the cable, however
I am having a really hard time finding this specific part.
does anyone have a part number?
