You would need a modchip to be able to play back ups on the Wii.

The VC hasn't been hacked yet, and isn't likely to for quite a while, just look at the 360.

Do you mean:

a) a version of GCOS that works with the Wii to allow a softmod for gamecube backups?
- Maybe, it can't be that difficult in the gamecube mode, its probably just a different drive code.

b) a version of GCOS that works with the Wii to allow a softmod for Wii backups?
- If there is a flaw somewhere that allows you to launch other applications its possible, but that could take awhile.

Speaking of flaws....

I was playing with the new "Homebrew Launcher" from datel last night. I was able to get an "overflow exception" to show up when trying to open a folder on my sd card. The card reader they sent with it is not compatible with my laptop, so, I used a digital camera as a substitute. When I put the card back in my Wii, I noticed that there was now a DCIM (digital camera images) folder on the card. I selected the folder to see if I had a pic in there and got a red screen with error codes and such. Possibly an opening for an exploit. Also, I played with GCOS 1.5 and tried the "backup disc to pc". I didn't have a gc disc handy, so I put a Wii title in. Whadya know, it recognized it and was trying to dump it...

Anyhow, it would be nice to see some progress with GCOS on the Wii. Version 1.x beta shows some good promise with new features.

No backups...when you try on 1.x, nothing happens, version 1.5 boots back to the Wii menu. I think this is potentially a workable softmod for those that don't want to crack open their Wii.
