Online problem considering Wii Chip?!

The WiiKey says that:

"- Fully upgradable via DVD/disc (future proof, expect cool features to come)"

Does that mean you will be able to upgrade your chip bios so Nintendo can't stop the chip?
And, when the games go online, will it work or are these early chips to simple?

It's hard to decide if you are going to buy a chip or not, i love backups but i would hate to buy a new Wii!

Honestly, I don't think Nintendo is going to do much to fight these modchips. Either way, you could not get banned from whatever online service Nintendo will make because the current modchips are simply drivemods, which are completely undetectable.

Drivemods? What does that mean?
Whats the difference between a regular chip and a drivemod chip?

A drivemod is just a modchip that you solder on to the PCB of the DVD drive rather than the motherboard of the console. All drivemods do is send the correct information to the Wii when a backup game is inserted so that the security will be overridden.

Edit: The difference is that modchips that go on the motherboard of the console enable much more and cooler things like imports from all reigons, homebrew, ect. While DVD drive mods only let you play backup games from your reigon.
