How To Fully Customise your PSP

In this thread i am gonna compile apps and instructions on how to fully customise your psp. Remember that if you follow the instructions carefuly you dont have to worry about bricking your psp. Also note that although these can be used on a 1.5 psp i strongly recommend to use them with dark alex's custom firmware installed (3.0XOE any revision) as well as testing the files with devhook before flashing them into your psp(devhook 0.51 can be found here).

You can:

1)Change your psp's icons in xmb
2)Change your psp's font
3)Change your psp's background picture
4)Change your psp's bootsound
5)Change your psp's firmware version
6)Change your psp's gameboot (video) (tutorial coming soon)

Ok,let's begin

1)To change your xmb icons you ll need firstly an app and secondly some premade icons.
Download the latest app from here: http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=45148
(This program comes with all the languages fixed as well as the fw3.0x icons)
I have also uploaded some premade icons to begin with here: http://rapidshare.com/files/12267742/My_sets.rar.html
Additional icons can be found here: http://www.psp-hacks.com/forums/forum-27.html
Growing thread with already made xmbs here: http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=44884
Attention:To make your own custom icons using photoshop as well as for additional icon sites visit this thread: http://forums.qj.net/f-psp-mods-medi...ons-86874.html

Now extract the file Custom xmbIcon Packager v0.3.1.zip you ve just downloaded.

Put your icons inside the Icons folder named:
1.bmp for the Settings Icon
2.bmp for the Photo Icon
3.bmp for the Music Icon
4.bmp for the Video Icon
5.bmp for the Game Icon
6.bmp for the Network Icon

and click on start.cmd. Finally type A,B or C (depending on which firmware you want to install your custom icons)and press enter

The program now will generate a topmenu_plugin.rco in the same folder with your icons.
Now it's time to flash it in the psp's Flash0 memory.
Download PSPSet 0.9 from here: http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/78
Install the app, copy your topmenu_plugin.rco in the root of your memory stick, run pspset0.9,go to "firmware tweaks" and select "flash topmenu_plugin.rco".That's it!

2)Download the main app from here: http://rapidshare.com/files/12269060/ttf2pgf.rar.html
100 fonts to begin with from here: http://rapidshare.com/files/12270455/My_Fonts.rar.html
Birdman1's Font Pack V11: http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/906
Additional fontpacks can be found here: http://www.psp-hacks.com/forums/viewforum.php?id=21
If you want to install fonts from your memory stick instead of flashing them download this: http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/377

First of all download the main app. Extract it and place your custom font file(*.ttf)inside ttf2pgf folder. You have to name it with a single word because if the name has underscores and stuff like that the app won't be able to convert it. Run the makefonts.bat and a new font with pgf extension will appear. Rename it to ltn0.pgf

Now if you don't want to flash it or in case you want to preview your custom fonts before installing them place ltn0.pgf inside devhook emulated firmware(place the pgf file inside ms0:\dh\[firmware testing]\f0\fonts\).Otherwise download the latest X-Flash V18k from here http://xflash.pspstuff.de/files/getfile.php?f=34&s=af67 and install it into your psp.
Place the ltn0.pgf inside ms0\PSP\GAME150\__SCE__XFLASH\XFlash\Modified
Run the app,go to number "6 INSTALL CUSTOM FONT" and press X. To restore the psp's original font press O
Just remember that some fonts will prevent the PS1 emulator from running. In that case just install one different font with the same process as above

3)Download custom backrounds from here:
http://www.psp-hacks.com/psp-backgrounds.php and
http://www.psp-hacks.com/forums/viewforum.php?id=22

(More info will be added soon)

4)First of all this tutorial is not mine. I just copied it because the steps are simple enough(you can find the original thread here: http://www.psp-hacks.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=42875)

Firstly download the Custom Bootsound Creation.zip from here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/d05lj0

Extract the files and run the PSPMenuEdit.exe. On the right menu it says 'Edit Coldboot Startup Sound' Click on '...'. Now select the opening_plugin.rco that came with the package. Then hit Extract Audio. It will extract the ColdBoot.vag same folder that opening_plugin.rco is located. Its called ColdBoot.vag. This is the original PSP Sound file.

Run MFAudio.exe and input the ColdBoot.vag. Now for Output, select WAV and choose the spot to save it to. Run The newly formatted WAV file in Windows Media Player. Sounds like the PSP opening sound right? It is!

Get the sound that you want to be your bootsound, and make sure it is in 16-Bit WAV format! If it isnt in 16-bit WAV format, then get a converter for it or it wont work! MFAudio only supports 16-bit.

WARNING: Bootsound MUST be NO MORE than 4 seconds long, and NO LESS than 1 second long, or it will not work and if you flash it, you may brick!

Once you get your 1-4 second 16-bit WAV sound,go into MFAudio and import it, then export it as a VAG. Now, lets test it in devhook, to make sure it wont brick.Go into PSPMenuEdit.exe again, load the opening_plugin.rco again, but this time hit 'Import new Audio' Rename the VAG that was generated to ColdBoot.vag, and import that. IT MUST BE CALLED ColdBoot.vag OR IT WONT WORK. now it will auto-patch itself. Now, copy the opening_plugin.rco to ms0:\dh\(firmware testing with)\vsh\resource\ and confirm replacement. Now load devhook. Does it work? if so then good!

WARNING: Flashing a bootsound on 3.02 OE/3.03 OE on ANY revision will disable the ability to play PSX games! To avoid this, download the 3.02 OE popstation loader and put it in ms0:\seplugins\. DO NOT ENABLE IT UNTIL AFTER FLASHING YOUR Bootsound!

Now open up PSPMenuEdit.exe and load the opening_plugin.rco. This time hit 'Import New audio' and navigate to your .vag file that was converted. Rename it to coldboot.vag(important!) and import it.The opening_plugin.rco is now patched, copy it to your ms root (ms0:\).Flash it to your psp using Pspset0.9(see above in the section how to flash you custom icons with the only difference you select "Firmware tweaks" and then "Change bootsound" of course!)

If you care about playing PSX games, then reboot PSP to RECOVERY MODE (if you downloaded the 3.02 OE popstation loader).Go to the plugins folder and enable 'popstation.prx.

5)You can change your firmware version displayed in psp SETTINGS-System Settings-System Information either with XFlash or with PSP 3.0X OE Firmware Changer V4

If you use Xflash you can change your firmware number to any number from 1.00-9.99.Just go to Xflash's option 9 and use D-Left and D-Right or L and R for fast searching.

3.0X OE Firmware Changer V4 (you can find it here: http://www.pspbrew.com/?page=fileInfo&cid=&d=3586 )
allows you to put anything you like for firmware, even letters(up to 9 characters of course)

FULLY customized would mean that you could move photo under settings, video under game, etc. And be able to remove/ add anything you want.

But this is a good thread for everything that we CAN customize

@katsika

to make the topmenu_plugin.rco it might be easier to use Custom xmbIcon Packager v0.3.1
here: http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=45148

I've fixed all the languages and the fw3.0x icons

actually you almost can. just rename all of the linked prx files to what you want it to be. *ie rename the webbrowser to the network up, etc etc*

also with the program Aythamie is talking about, you can change ANY of the icons to what ever you want. Im currently working on having the network update = reboot. the certificate utility = usb host. the online manual = webmail. and still trying to think of what to location free. but the point is, you can change the icons to all of these things to whatever you want.

I suggest downloading something like GIMP because MS Paint hasn't been changed since windows 3.1 :P and it doesn't have very many useful image editing options that are commonplace today

That's why it's a bit complicated to flash the fonts with XFlash,so people read the faq and learn what they are going to do.

Read the guide,it's in 1) and 2) sections. The process is the same exactly for both 3.02OE and 3.03OE users.
