[MAJ] Yacc: Yet Another Cso Compressor but...
Dear all,
Yacc is a simple GUI that compress iso files in CSO, DAX or JSO format. Yes: it’s another GUI for doing this task but I’ve tried to add some cool functionalities that I haven’t found in other software. There are for example:
- no ugly ms-dos window when compressing
- all tasks are threaded and the GUI doesn’t freeze when ciso.exe is launched
- batch processing for compress many iso files
- launch 2 or 4 compressions at the same (very useful for hyperthreading or dualcore cpu owners)
- can use the powerful compressor : CisoPlus!
- can speak 10 languages! (English, French, Spanish, Italian, German, Portuguese, Finnish, Brazilian, Polish, Dutch)
- easy drag&drop file selection and some other cool features…
The website is:
http://yacc.pspgen.com
and the first link let you download YACC 0.3.9.6.zip
This software is still in development but as all the work is done by ciso.exe (by Booster), daxcr.exe (by Dark_alex) or jiso.exe (by Uncle Jam) it’s impossible to loose or create an invalid Iso, Cso, Dax or Jso file.
As you can read, I’m not fluent in English, so there are certainly translation errors in the GUI and I would appreciate if someone could correct my English.
Thank you in advance for bug report and suggestions.

Not to rain on your parade but I use CSOnDAX. It makes both CSO and DAX without popping up any DOS/command prompt windows. But the best feature by far is that the NC feature from DAX can be used on CSO! The sound in some games, like GTA, will lag a bit due to the compression. Turn on NC Audio and like magic your CSOs play at full speed, no more lag. There's an NC Video option too, as some games lag while playing video clips.

Sweet! Just wondering:

Probably would actually make it slower, as this compression is more HDD intensive than CPU. All multi-core CPUs should be able to handle the CPU part of the compression easily.
One question however - how did you get the progress bar info from ciso.exe? I notice you have a pipe.exe file there - is it done through that? Cause I haven't been able to get a progress bar for mine
Great program, BTW!

Thank for this information. My aim is only to use known softwares such as original ciso.exe by Booster and try to catch MSDOS screen into a GUI. It's true that ciso.exe has no options (contrary to daxc.exe). I will check your CSOnDAX and if possible try to integrate it in Yacc.

CSO-DAX COMPRESSOR is a very great soft, with a lot of options and compression methods (cso, dax, jso), but I don't really like this MS-DOS windows when you launch a compression. On top of that you cannot choose task priority and, for me, I hate to have my pc slowing down when I launch a batch processing.

The only interesting case is when you have iso files on a first HDD, you compress them on another HDD with a low dualcore and fast HDDs. Other programs such as winrar have the same problems on new CPU... the only solution is to rewrite ciso.exe and optimize the disk access.
With Intel D950 (Dual Core 3.4Ghz) and 2 Samsung HD160JJ/P Sata, time reduction can reach up to 30% but sometimes depending on Windows mood, it can be slower than launching the compressions sequentially.
Users can try the method (1, 2 or 4 parallel tasks) according to their configuration

ciso.exe writes 2 numbers: progression and compression rate. I only catch the numbers and redirect them into a TProgressBar. I have developped pipe.exe to control MS-DOS windows in order to have less works when creating a GUI that use console programs.
I have forgotten to say that my original aim is not to do a perfect ciso GUI, I was working on a completely different project that using a lot of external console softwares for HT and DualCore CPU.
During test and debuging, I used ciso.exe because it was the first .exe I have found. It's a friend that asked me to try to make a real GUI for cso compression.

Hmm, alright. If you're using two HDDs, I guess it may increase the speed a bit. Sorry.

I see - it's just that I've looked everywhere - my program currently pipes the data, however, Windows won't let me read the pipes whilst ciso.exe is running - meaning that once ciso.exe terminates, I get all the progress numbers etc (but it's useless at that time).
How did you manage to "pipe" the output while the program is still running?
Thanks a lot for your info

I see, that makes sense. Can't wait to see your "actual project"!

Hahaha, well, it seems the primary link is down - the Sendspace link should still work: http://www.sendspace.com/file/xbxa4a
Not as good as some apps out there though - it's main aim was to provide batch converting.
EDIT - I found that I posted the link in the other thread, wrong, should be: http://www.clanodin.net/pc102.7z
Thanks for the response kapouekapoue!
