Mario Hoops 3-on-3 for DS Fails to Impress
1UP has reviewed Mario Hoops 3-on-3 for the DS giving it a final score of 4.5/10. All in all, it's an ok decent game but lacks longevitity and causes immense frustration due to the reliance on stylus control.

3-on-3 is an initially decent game of basketball, as long as you're not looking for a sim -- and really, there's little else on the system worth considering for hoops. But the grand experiment of translating stylus swipes into intuitive no-look passes and alley-oops fails more often than it works, and that's the big "if" upon which the whole thing hangs. If you know of at least three other players who plan to dive into what's offered here, then it's worth a try. For anyone looking for real longevity past the initial trial cups and training games, you're better off biding your time until something less frustrating comes along.

this game has got alot of good reviews from the import. egm and 1up give stupid scores to most games these days. if it isn't full of sex and violence, and isn't a third person or fps shooter than its not a good game.

Man I thought any game developed by Square Enix gets an automatic 7 or 8.
You could follow your neighbors dog, collect it's steaming crap, label it "developed by Square Enix" and make a fortune.
btw not saying this game is crap....haven't played it....yet.

Well ive read the review and sounds geniune, maybe its like all stylus games for me (apart from star fox) are hard to play with the stylus, maybe because im left handed but it seemed pretty fast to control whilst looking at both screens.
Also i agree the games life is pretty dull, just like nintendogs, after a few weeks its boring because its the same thing over and over with nothing new to do.

why does a DS game getting a poor review make frontpage news anyway?
If it gets 8.0 everywhere else it doesnt make the news, but if 1 site gives it a low score (and then raises it) its more important?

Well maybe like all other consoles, with glitches or bad reviews, they just inform us of a bad game, no point telling us its excellent.
Its nothing (before you moan) personal about the DS, its just the Game has been rated as a Bad Game.
And in reason i agree, the stylus controls can be tricky on most games.

thats not my point RB, every poor game review doesnt make front page news so why does this one?
Saints Row gets highly rated online, but in edge magazine this month they hammer it giving it 4/10 or something like that, considering the 360s lack of decent games in the first place id warrent this far more newsworthy.
I personally liked 3on3 and thought the controls were very good, giving it a new angle on the sport instead of just doing the same old thing every other basketball game has done, that being said i didnt play it very long since i thought i would wait for the US version.
Considering its by Square Enix who are famous for RPG games, their first try at a sports game has recieved (in most places) a very warm welcome, somehow i dont think theres many software houses that could be so versitile.

I have the import jap game and I've been playing it from when it came out and I totally disagree with this review. The game is funny, the gfx/audio are really good (one of the best gfx I've seen on Ds thus far) and most of all the gameplay and the stylus controls are really innovating and easy to use, I really like them.
Probably the reviewer got his arse beaten by the Square chars in the rainbow cup LOL
seriously, I think the game deserves a higher score. All these people complaining about the stylus etc IMHO are people who are scared by doing things in a new way.

im not scared of doing things in a new way, im left handed and like most ds games are pain in the ass trying to play with the pen in your left hand.
The ds just isnt ideal for 3d type games and left hands.
Sega casino is the only game i like on the ds as i dont need to use any of the ds buttons, i dont even need to hold the ds, and is perfect to use my left hand to touch the screen.
mario 3 on 3 just cant be played very well, like described in the review, i get the same problems.

That statement was not referring to you RB, it was a generic consideration.
