Thumbs up EpsilonBIOS v1.0 Review, Video, Picture and manual!!

To all you kids out there who didn't belive in Team UP and Epsilon!
The EpsilonBios v1.0 is now raedy to rock the world.

Here is a short review, manual, picture and video of Epsilon Bios v1.0 running on a modified PSP with Undiluted Platinum modchip.
Review.
The first thing you must do is to flash the UP with bootloader fw, this can easy be done with UP flasher.
Second thing to do is to update the Epsilon bios. Place the supplied EBUPDATE.BIN into the root directory of your memory stick
and press "Update Epslion bios". The update takes a few seconds and it`s very easy.
Update the PSP to fw 2,71 if you don't have that already.

With the supplied Epsilon Zip tool you can easy compress ISOs to GZIP format.
I have tested to compress A 460 MB ISO of "Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Mans Chest (USA) (skafa)"
After compression the GZIP file is 360 MB (22% compression)
Place the GZIP file in /ISOS directory of your memory card. Start PSP and go to memory card and start the game.
You don`t need to GZIP the file, ISO also works.
The GZIP game runs smoothly and at this point I can`t find any bugs.

I also unbricked a PSP with the "Restore onboard NAND" function and YES it really works!!

Thanx UP and Epsilon for a super good product.
If it`s possible to use less wires and make the installation easier
this is going to be a must have for every PSP user.

Exclamation Great

but there is the beef?

Missing are the actual bios/ms files, so this is still just another video. BTW looks very different from the first video. So this is kind of admission the first video was fake AND unrealizable after all.

The review states in the first sentence: First you have to upgrade the onboard fw to 2.71. End quote. This is not correct. FIRST one has to obtain the UP bios/firmware files.

As they still are nonexistent I advise very strongly against updating any onboard FW below or equal 2.60 to 2.71.

If somebody has FW 2.60 or lower DO NOT UPGRADE until UP delivers.

BTW I am still waiting for my UP to arrive in the mail.

I had newer said that the first thing to do is to install fw 2.71, first you must install Epsilon bios and then you can go on with fw 2.71

Any way stay tuned to more info in a few days..

classified eh? lol

I already wondered why they use gzip when it's actually not easily usable for seeking and 2 other compression formats are out there.

Smile To Divineo.se

Cool. Editing the thread starting post and stating "I never posted" that.. ROFLMAO

Back to topic: I think the Undiluted Platinum modchip is a excellent solution, (and I am still trying to get one) even without the Epsilon Bios !!

If Epsilon Bios delivers any functionality ==> Great! Great job well done!!

But please no more video release's !

And to clarify: I said 'please' and 'no more video'. I did not say that any involved video is fake, but I think that any working stuff promising video which is not accompanied by actual working stuff is a problem.

BTW Anybody got the YOUTUBE links at hand, which are now 'classified'?

the psp already reads gzip so this just enables it to read iso in that form.

Epsilon Bios manual from 'classified'

Epsilon is broken into two parts, the bootloader and the BIOS. The bootloader is
flashed to UP memory once, then to install or update the BIOS the bootloader
recovery menu is used. You shouldnt need to flash via the UP tool again once
the bootloader has been initially installed, making things easier for customers.

To install:
-----------

1) Program "epsilonBootloader1.0.flash" to UP using the flasher tool
2) Copy EBUPDATE.BIN into the root directory of your memory stick. This can
be done with a card reader, via the epsilon recovery menu or via the PSP OS.
3) Turn on the PSP, it will enter the recovery menu since no BIOS is installed.
4) Select "Update Epsilon BIOS"
5) If you dont have 2.71 installed in PSP onboard firmware you will need to do
so. This can be done with the recovery menu, place the update EBOOT in the
standard place on the memory stick (/PSP/GAME/UPDATE/EBOOT.PBP) and select
"Launch Firmware Updater" from the recovery menu. This can be used to both
upgrade and downgrade the PSP onboard firmware using Sony's own updaters.

NOTE: To forcefully enter the recovery menu, hold SELECT+START while turning
the PSP on.

To unbrick a PSP:
-----------------

1) Place a NAND flash image of 1.00 or 1.50 firmware (same format as used by
UP flasher tool) in the root of the memory stick with the filename
"nandImage.flash".
2) Enter the recovery menu and select "Restore onboard NAND"

Running homebrew:
-----------------

1) Copy EBOOT's to the normal location (/PSP/GAME/). Both 1.0 and 1.50 types
are supported.
2) Execute them from the 2.71 shell

Running ISOs:
-------------

1) Copy ISO files or compressed EZIP (use the supplied tool) into /ISOS on the
memory stick.
2) The games will appear in the same menu where homebrew is lunched from
(the Memory Stick->Game menu). Simply launch them as you would with homebrew.

NOTE: Each time the contents of the ISOS directory are changed a cache file
must be updated which will cause a slight delay when entering the
Memory Stick->Game menu.
