Terrible news for us DS owners. Good thing i kept my reciept. Is there a way of telling if mine will be follow this emerging trend? I wonder how many units could be affected by this fault, could be a costly recall for Nintendo?

There is a reason why Sony has been voted the number one brand. I wish Nintendo would stop concentrating on low prices and concentrate on producing high quality, well built products. If it was Sony you guys would be ranting and raving, Sony you arrogant B******s, with your poor quality hardware, you think you can sell us anything blah blah blah. Looks like the sun doesnt shine out of Nintendos backside after all. A reality check for those of you that thought that Nintendo couldnt put a foot wrong.

wanna know what else is weird??

i herd about the cracked hinges so i wanted to see how the hinges were build and how tough they looked...so went to walmart and there display one has a crack on the hinge also??? weird...and the display one doesnt even move...seems like nintendo probably sent all the broken japanese ones to the usa...and then made blackones for europe giving them the newer ones.

japans all we lost the war to you now you get broken ds.

I have an imported navy blue DS lite and it has no crack. I've had it about 3 weeks and used a lot, kept in a case for the last 2 weeks, but one time it was charging and I stepped on the power cord and it crashed to the ground, but it is fine; still no crack. Anyone with a navy blue or other imported Lite have a crack?

It happened to me too. I treated my DS lite like a baby, heck I even used a Nintendo brand case. I called Nintendo about 3 days ago and the rep said he won't take it back because the warranty does not cover cracks and the guy said it must have been my fault and he could have it repaired for $50 (because its still under warranty). I grumbled to him and finally said I'd live with it.

After the crack my poor ds doesn't seem as lovely as before, its lost some of its majesty. When I let friends play my DS lite, no one noticed crack.. But I still know its there.

I'll make a trip to Nintendo World next week to see how the demo DS lites are holding up. How can we organize this and bring it to Nintendo's attention?

That is really sad. I think I have had mine in about 3 or 4 weeks now, nothing like that on mine I must admit, and I use it allot.

I guess Nintendo doesn't support cosmetic fixes for free; kind of a bummer.

thePANICHIOteam did you ever see all the problems the psp had? i don't know if they still have all the problems but the lcd alone was guaranteed to have tons of dead pixels and what not, sony cut alot of corners with the psp and still charged an arm an a leg for it. i am not defending nintendo in anyway, but this is the first mainstream problem i have ever heard about with a nintendo product, unlike a problem with every sony gaming device when they came out. it is a bummer for ds lite owners though, i am glad i still have my special edition fat ds. then i can get a lite when this problem is ironed out, if it hasn't been already. at least this is only cosmetic and doesn't actually hurt your playing the system. the same could not be said about the psp. whatever happened with sony saying that you would never have to upgrade the firmware ever! how many times has it been now that they have forced firmware upgrades in order to play the newest games?

Thumbs down

Looks like Nintendo are getting their own share of problems too. No company can be perfect, and I wish all these Nintendo fanatics would learn that. I've never had a single problem with my PSP. Not only this, but even on the original DS, you must have noticed how easily the paint wares and scratches off. Surely Nintendo, as a popular and trusted company can do better than this.

-Nintendo Wii
-Sega Dreamcast, Custom Yellow 'Pacman' Version
-Custom Silver XBox Original
-Other various consoles e.g. NES, SNES, GameCube, Saturn... the kind that gather dust
