Rein r15 - Backup your NDS Game Saves
SaTa has updated his Rein program for the NDS to r15. Rein is a homebrew utility used to backup your NDS game saves that are stored on the NDS cartridges. This application is perfect for anyone who wishes to edit their save game or just create a nice backup just in case something unfortunate happens.

This looks like a good program. Would be nice if you could write those saves onto the SRAM of the approrpiate commerical cart.
Also is there something like this for the GBA games?

This program is my saviour! When I bought my M3, I was so bummed that I had to start all my games from scratch, until I found this. I love that it has a built in option for backing up M3 type saves and then writes them right to the card.

How exactly would I put this on a set up with an M3 Mini SD and the Magic Key 3? I can't figure out how the file works at all. Thanks.

Just put the "REIN.nds" on your mini SD, put the SD in your M3, put your M3 in your DS and then boot up. Browse to the rein.nds file and push start (not A). When the program starts, select "M3 Man" and hit A. It'll then ask you to insert an original NDS cart. Do that and hit A again. It'll backup whatever saves are on there, then it'll ask you where you want to put the save. It'll show a list of current saves on your M3. Just go to the one for the game you just inserted and hit A again and it will overwrite the save. As far as I know, there must already be a ".dat" (save) file on your M3 for the game you are doing this for because it has to overwite a file that already exsits. But if you used the M3 game manager software to put the game on your M3, it automatically creates the ".dat" file for you. Hope that helps.

Ok, Ok starting to understand the program a bit. Is there a way to change the .dat to .sav and vice versa? Also, can you put save data on to commercial DS cards? Thanks a million.

If you choose the first option ("backup"), it will write the save file in the .sav format directly to the root directory of your M3, and then you can put it on your computer for safe keeping. There is not a way to write saves to retail DS games.

Are you hitting start or A to run the program? To get it to run correctly, you need to hit start.

Is there anyway to put the save back onto the cart? Meaning lets say I remove a Mario Kart save with REIN then edit it and want to put it back on the cart how do I do it?
Thanks,
