Cliffy B: Borderlands is the Diablo of this generation

The director of the Gears of Wars franchise has popped out to denote that Borderlands is the Diablo of this generation, which is obviously a good thing. He added that it's kind of like a 'more accessible, shootery version of fallout'.

Cliffy.B the design director of the Gears of War franchise is one of the most talkative developers out there. In the past few months, he had made a comment on the future of shooters by saying “the future of shooters is RPGs” and with games like Fallout 3 and the recently released Borderlands, it’s seem like a reasonable comment.

Today, the infamous designer has praised Gearbox latest game through his official twitter account by saying “Borderlands, I adore you. You’re Diablo for a generation raised on first person shooters. I want a Claptrap statue.” It’s not the first time that he gave praise to Borderlands, as he said earlier “I think Borderlands is not getting as much hype as it should, because it really looks like a more accessible, shootery version of Fallout.”

I've seen this said for a fair few games but none seem to have the spark that diablo had, fingers crossed this one may do the trick. I'll give it a try when I finnish Dragon Age, by then it will no doubt be a bit cheaper

I absolutely hate this comparison. Borderlands is not Diablo. Nor would I use Borderlands and Diablo in the same breath. Borderlands will be in the bargin bin in a few months. There's a reason the Battle Chest is still damn near the price of retail.

Diablo:

- Over the top perspective NOT FP
- NO guns whatsoever
- Mobs upon mobs of enemies
- Has a story worth a damn
- Depth of the ocean for character development
- Several character options
- The benchmark for the RPG...even after 10 years!

Only negative thing I can see w/Diablo:
- Graphics showing their age--> I'm not sold on the Diablo 3 look. It doesn't look like that dark feel you have with the Diablo series.

Borderlands:

- I'd compare this to Fallout 3 before a Diablo comparison
- See the first statement

I find this a very unfair comparison in defense of Borderlands. It is a shooter with small hints of RPG elements. Trying to call a shooter at it's core gameplay a RPG after what the Diablo series has accomplished just isn't very fair to Borderlands.

Agreed, 10 years later "Diablo" is still on people's mind... Borderland is just attraction of the moment... Diablo became a classic without the need of marketing, was mouth to mouth info, and became a cult ! Was unique.
