Major Nelson warns 360 owners about LIVE bans

Major Nelson has stepped out to once again confirm that MS is banning modded consoles from LIVE. He also wanted to re-inforce the fact that the industry is reliant on people paying for their goods and services.

Here's Major Nelson's statement in full:

As you may have read online, we’ve been actively banning consoles from Xbox LIVE that have been modified to play pirated games. Our commitment to combat piracy and support safer and more secure gameplay for the more than 20 million members of our Xbox LIVE community remains a top priority. All consumers should know that piracy is illegal, and that modifying their Xbox 360 console to play pirated discs, violates the Xbox LIVE terms of use, will void their warranty and result in a ban from Xbox LIVE. The health of the video game business depends on customers paying for the genuine products and services they receive from manufacturers, retailers, and the third parties that support them. This would also be a good time to remind you that the warranty on an Xbox 360 console is not transferrable and if you purchase a used console that has been previously banned, you will not be able to connect to Xbox LIVE.

Anyone else read this with the sound of his voice going in there head? I love it well if you buy a used one banned wellllll your fucked. Which is clearly saying the only safe way is to buy a new one.

Except they dont just ban live, they bugger up your profile and block hdd installs.

What else do you expect them to do about used consoles? If they just unbanned with a phone call there would be no point..since pirates would just pass them around round-robin to get their consoles "fixed". How is it MS's fault that there are unscrupulous people willing to rip off other people?

A good rule of thumb is if they are willing to pirate they are most likely willing to rip off retailers or even individuals too, I always tell friends the first thing they need to do when buying a used console is to have it connected online first, if they claim they dont have live...sign in to your own account or even bring in a 1 month card..they are far cheaper than even the price of a used console.

I would never ever advise anyone to buy a second hand 360, 99% are either banned or have been RROD fixed and then sold/traded in to buy a more reliable console e.g. ps3

Maybe larry has said this due to fraudulent returns because MS are wasting their time checking consoles that have been hacked.

Don't even try to make Sony sound like their the good guys. The only reason they don't ban people is because their console isn't hacked. You can bet your ass if it was hacked they would be banning left and right too.

just now they disable hd installs too.


never cared since i don't go on live, i'm fine with free games, don't need live really unless u love multiplayer (with a bunch of idiots) most of the time.

For everyone one console they ban, they will get another console sold, modded, and it will get stealthed the right way.

the reason for 0 banned consoles on psn is because there is no softmod/modchip for the ps3 that allow backups. i'm sure if this was the case there would be just as much banned ps3 from online gaming.it's a bit hard to say this until you can have a softmod that allows the running of backups on the ps3.........................sudeki300

This is why they should only ban acounts or ban you from playing the backup online. How can you punish a costumer for buying a second hand xbox360?
