Xbox 360 Fails to even outsell Gamecube in Japan

Gamasutra report "the Xbox 360’s second week on the charts, though, has been even more disappointing than the first, with the console, showing 8,623 units sold, failing to outsell even the GameCube. This is a performance so far in Japan beneath even the low standards of the original Xbox’s launch - in large part thanks to the continued non-appearance of Dead or Alive 4 or any other prominent Japanese-developed titles".

i think that the japan failure was quite sure and announced, there are several country in the world, microsoft can bet on the others where the sales are good (europe-America).

I think that MS is smart and dumb. They talked about winning Japan for so much and didn't back it up. They got support from many Japanese developers. The problem is that tey don't have any games to support them. The games they have attract Americans and Europeans. Now, MS was smart to go first to have a lead in American and European sales. However, if MS had some great Japanese games during launch, it would be a completely diferent story in Japan. If MS gave them DOA4, Final Fantasy, Ridge Racer (I know that is already out), and a new game to attract the Japanese people, then MS would prosper in Japan. Since MS only had Ridge Racer and demos, they did bad. PS3 will have some great games at launch and will yet again beat MS in Japan unless MS brings those games out. Just my $0.02

Agreed, biggieandmoe. I don't think that MS didn't do as much research as to what the Japanese gamer really wanted. It'll be a shame if only RR6 and DOA4 is the only reason a J-gamer will go out of his or her way to get a 360...In fact, those two games, as well as PGR3, is the only reason I want a 360 now...but I can wait.
no longer valid...

that is true, their biggest game for Japan is Dead or Alive 4, people lined up like hell at the kiosks to play that. But if that's nto out yet, there is no reason in Japan to get a 360...

even so, anyone who will try to rationalize it will see that there are only a handful of 360 games due in Japan for the whole year... so maybe it's not only DOA4, but the lack of other big titles. Let's face it, not everyone likes fighting/racing games.

If the wanted a succes launch whit xbox360 in japan, they hade to release it whit blue dragon, or any other big rpg.Or even a remake of crono trigger(crono trigger resurection) or just some wierd game jap's like.

Or even whit FFXI,becuase xbox live is mutch better then online play on ps2.
