MDF to ISO
I have an MDF file and it's useless to me. I cannot use the ESR patcher. I am unsure if I can use WinHiip as my PS2 hard drive is broken and and I have to wait for a new one, so in the meantime I wanna test this game using ESR.
I tried using Power ISO but it gives an error about no UDF descriptor...
How can I convert it to an ISO that the ESR patcher will read?

You can just change the extension from .mdf to .iso
But most likely this is a CD game
To be able to use that with ESR, you will first need to convert it from CD>DVD

The MDF is around 800 MB so I don't think it could fit on a CD. It's SSX Tricky.
Is MDF the samething as ISO? Why is the file named MDF?
EDIT: WinHiip gives an error when I try to put the renamed MDF one and I cannot open it as an ISO (too see the files inside)

It was created with Alcohol, so yes even though it is 800 mb it can be burned to CD
But to be compatible with ESR, you need to convert it to DVD.
Use Isobuster to extract all to a folder, then convert CD>DVD
To use Winhiip to copy it too hdd, just leave it named .mdf and it should copy it as CD file.

Why would anyone want to use MDF if it makes the image bigger?
I tried renaming it to ISO and using WinHiip but it gave an error.

Alcohol is the program used to make .mdf and .mds files
It is good for PS1 or PS2 CD games.
Anyway , my mistake earlier on which extension to select with Winhiip.
For using with Winhiip, don't rename the .mdf file and select the .mds file when adding image.

So alcohol won't rip to ISOs?
Is MDS like CUE?

.mds is media descriptor file, yes its like the .cue file.
the way I rip .mdf to ISO, is too mount the image , then use imgburn to rip it too ISO.
But as I said if it is a CD ISO image, then ESR disc patcher won't work either, as you would then have to convert CD>DVD ISO

Winhiip should copy it, not sure why its not.
It is a CD game, so ESR won't patch it.
You will need to convert it too DVD, that will also work then for Winhiip too.
Just follow the tutorial -

To follow that does it have to be in ISO? I don't know how to extract an MDF. I will try using the MDS file later.
(PS Windrider, can you please post on my forum!)

MagicISO will extract the .mdf file if you want to follow that tutorial or convert it for you to bin/cue so that it should then work with Winhiip.
