60% Japan Xbox 360s Unsold

Next-Gen report 'preliminary figures following the Xbox 360 launch in Japan show that only 62,000 units have thus far been sold, from a shipment of over 150,000.

Local sources estimate that less than 50% of the country's allocation had been sold at the end of the weekend. Microsoft Japan had been expecting to bring in more units in the weeks ahead, but with shortages biting elsewhere in the world, this now looks unlikely.

Microsoft may be hoping that the arrival of Dead or Alive 4 at the end of the month will spur on some sales. But on the spot reports from Japanese retail centers have reported general apathy surrounding the launch.

The company's launch has been blighted by appalling shortages in North America and Europe; accusations will now fly that the international allocation has been botched.

While it's probably disappointing to MS, at least the Japanese launch won't drain too much more of the console supply from EUR and NA production.

It'll get better as soon as some Japanese devs release games (mistwalker!!).. I bet Ridge Racer is the only game sold in Japan...
