Every 13 Seconds an Xbox 360 Sells on eBay
TeamXbox report the Xbox 360 continues to sell out of stores across the nation. Buyers are turning to eBay in an effort to get their hands on the latest craze in the video gaming market.
Quote:
In fact, the first week after its launch (November 22nd, 2005 - November 28th, 2005) Xboxs were selling at an unbelievable rate of 1 every 13 seconds during peak times. Based on Terapeak analysis of eBay data, over $23 million worth of Microsoft Xbox 360s were sold in the first week.
The following research was completed using Terapeak's web-based research tool to set price filters on completed transactions of Xbox 360 systems priced greater than $250 and less than $1500. The demand for Xbox was well above the standard with a staggering average of 19 bids per successful listing.
In fact, over 586,035 bids were placed on 39,562 systems. The success rate for Xbox 360 systems listed on eBay.com was 78.2%. The average selling price for units sold was $718 per unit.
It is interesting to note that the majority of listings took place primarily between 8AM-12PM PST and in the evening between 2PM-7PM PST. 92% of the listings were auctions and approximately 65% of those transactions were 1-day duration listings. eBay.com Picture Services and Bold features were the most used selling tactics by eBay sellers.
Since the first week demand has dropped to an average of 15 bids per successful listing. The success rate and average price of Xbox 360 auctions have also come down. They are now 75.4% and $702, respectively.

Unfortunetly Ebay is the way to go if you need it right now. About 90 percent of retailers have marked up the prices to 800 dollars due to the popularity.
Ya i know what your thinking.
What ever happened to suggested retail value?
Maybe you should ask whatever happened to maintained morality?
Jcpenny was selling the premium for 800.
circuit city for around 600.
costco for 80 bucks above retail.
Best buy on the 18th. Probably 1000. Cause best buy is the whore of all electronics.
I never thought I'd see the day where retailers are chargin more then some ebay whores.
Btw your probobly thinking what the retailers are doin is illegal. Surprisingly it isn't. it's only illegal if it's applied to a certain region when in need.
Example: Hurrican Katrina.
Let's say somebody has a water purifier shop and he marks up the prices due to overwhelming need.
Since this is applied only to that region and it's in need it's illegal.
The 360 isn't a need and isn't applied to a certain region.
Since we know the 360 is being sold at best buy you can get it for cheaper. Simply pricematch to a place that's selling it for 400 dollars retail for the premium.
Bring evidence that a place like Target is sellin it for 400 and they'll pricematch it. Maybe not 100% like they usually would but jcpenny pricematched their 800 to 32% costing around 550 after pricematch.
My best suggestion though is to wait till Febuary.
That's when the bugs will be fixed and hopefully a line of chips are out.

wow that's crazy i never knew the official retailers were getting in on this too. a synical person may believe that some management type people are getting the first of the restocking fees and selling them higher on eBay to get more money that way (considering they don't have to worry about being price-matched on eBay, and they can keep the profit themselves instead of the profit going to Best Buy or whatever).
Another thing is there really isn't that big of a launch lineup to warrant this madness, and the fact that retailers are getting in on this suggests to me that something fishy is going on.
Frankly anyone who pays more than $400USD for a premium Xbox console has more money than brains. Why pay this much for a console that has known bugs that may not have been adressed yet.
I agree with kgonepostl, I don't have a 360 now but I will get one, just not at this price, and not with the games available now.

Let's just say on the 18th at Best Buy when they sell the premiums for outrageouse prices I'm gonna make things interesting.
Keep your eyes peeled on the news bout a guy with a megaphone being carried to jail if you do see something like this there's good chance are if this does happen it's me.
I'm extremely pissed that corporations are pulling this **** and I'm not gonna sit by and do nothing.

Shouldn't it be "every 30 seconds a picture of an xbox360 is sold on ebay" ?

That's what I'm saying. It's actually better to get them from a reputable seller then a retail store (sad ain't it).
IT'S MEGAPHONE TIME BIYATCHES!!! JUST BOUGHT ONE TODAY!!
I'm gonna be yellin out sales and stock quotes from best buy. Also their greedy sales tactics and other stuff on how they purposely slimmed the launch stock so they could sell it on the 18th. I know a lot of you think this is unnecessary but I disagree.
If places like jcpenny and best buy find that this works this time what stops them from doing it with the next nintendo or the ps3 and in future generations?
Would you really want to wait a extra 2 months for your nintendo revolution? how bout your ps3? All because of the extremely high initial prices?
It could also possibly have a negative impact on how much MS or sony even nintendo charges. Hell if they see retailers marking it up double ammount then why not?
