SCUMMVM DS questions
ok well i have no idea where else to ask and i always got answers on maxconsole <3 mc ... anyway the scummvm ds site says theres a 30mb limit and from everything i'm hearing curse of monkey island is over 30mb, but they have pics of it running.
the only reason i'm lookin at getting SCUMMVM ds is because of the thought of playing CoMI on my ds! ;-) are those pics from the demo of comi or whats the deal? lol
anywho, if nobody knows of well ;-)

Well..I heard about the 30 Mbs limit...pb is it's very hard to find news about the soft, like, updates, and stuff...
It's hard also to just find a good forum to learn about it, on the ScummVM site forums, it's not popular, I understand it's unofficial ?
What I'm really interested in is getting all the bigger, full talkie games (can you imagine...The Dig and MI 3 ?
I hope that can happen in the future..
Well, I'm gonna get a bigger SD card soon, so I'll can't wait to be able to test those 2 and FT, DOTT, etc..(I naturally mean talkie versions). In the meantime(I have only a 128 for now) I tested Loom, with an Audio track compressed to Ogg format I found lying around..it added up to a 40 something mb file, the game worked, but not the audio...dunno how relevant that is to the 30 mb file limit, but the game did work, the file being over 40 mbs
Actually,Loom is a weird story cos...
(Next is a small digression, I know maybe it's not the place, I'll make the same post on ScummVM's site..who knows who It might help or interest)
I got the CD version. when I browse the CD, I don't find anything ressembling an audio track, the total size of the files on the CD add up to 4 mb something , but in Properties of the CD, it does say 43 mb, so the audio is there, somewhere, I just can't find it, I guess..
What's real strange is ScummVM can't find it either !! It won't play music, sounds or speech. It does work tho with that Ogg or MP3s tracks I found lying around...
I'm talking ScummVM for Windows, here, because, what's EVEN STRANGER is ScummVM for DREAMCAST does play full audio on this original Loom CD !!!
So, anyway, I would extract the audio file from the CD myself to a format maybe best recognized by scummds, but I can't browse the CD files for it,so..
Anyhow, if anyone has some info about running talkies, or even a link to some forum or something where I could find in depth discussion about those matters..
I dunno..I'll test for myself very soon, tho, so..I'll be dropping some words :S

hi yoko, i have exactly the same problem with loom cd version
don t now what to do
but for dott, sam n max cd versions (talkies of course) it worked also but only with the real cd versions of each one, not with the cd versions from lucasarts collections(Monkey I n II, dott INDY 4 and samnmax), monkey I 256 hasn t music but plays sounds, MI II works perfectly, dott hasn t voices and sounds but plays music, the same from sam n max.
But for loom i found nothing cause the only version i have is the cd version!!
let me know if u found a solution
ps: full throttle and the dig don t work at all and you?
i edit this post cause i think i found it!! the missing files(40 MB) are a audio cd file, i could play it with the windows media player!!! it s about 52 min of sounds and musics!!!
i saw on the official site of scummds that wz had to re encode the file through cdex or another in an other ind of music file, i ll let you know what i ll find!!! try it too, and tell me
here is what they say::
Converting your CD audio
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ScummVM supports playing CD audio for specific games which came with music stored as standard music CD tracks. To use this music in ScummVM DS, they need to be ripped from the CD and stored in a specific format. This can only be done for the CD versions of certain games, such as Monkey Island 1. All the floppy games and CD games that didn't have CD audio tracks for music don't require any conversion, and will work unmodified on ScummVM DS.
Cdex can do the conversion very well and I recommend using it to convert your audio files, although any CD ripping software can be used, so feel free to use your favourite program. The format you need to use is IMA-ADPCM 4-bit Mono. You may use any sample rate. All other formats will be rejected, including uncompressed WAV files.
Now I will to describe how to rip your CD tracks with Cdex, which can be found here: Cdex Homepage
To set this up in Cdex, select Settings from the Options menu. On the Encoder tab, select 'WAV Output Encoder'. Under 'Encoder Options', choose the following:
Format: WAV
Compression: IMA ADPCM
Samplerate: 22050 Hz
Channels: Mono
On the fly encoding: On
Next, go to the 'Filenames' tab and select the folder you want to save your Wav files to. Under 'Filename format', enter 'track%3'. This should name your WAV files in the correct way. Click OK.
Now select all the tracks on your CD, and click 'Extract CD tracks to a compressed audio file'. Cdex should rip all the audio off your CD.
Now all you have to do is copy the newly created WAV files into the same directory that your other game data is stored on your CompactFlash card. Next time your run ScummVM DS, it should play with music!
