Thumbs up HHD / HDLoader with Messiah V1 Modchip?

I know it's a bit late in the day but I didn't have a clue that the hard drive mod even existed for PS2 until today...

Hoping someone might be able to tell me if HDLoader and a large hard drive would be compatible with my Messiah modchip?

It's the very first generation fitted by ChannelTech themselves.

I read somewhere else that it wouldn't recognise the hard drive with this chip? Is there any truth in this?

Also, installing HDloader to a memory card... surely the use of a PS1 trigger disc makes the installation a bit pointless or is it something to do with load times?

Any help with these matters would be most appreciated...

I can't find any info about that. I would think it should be ok as it's the hdd loader 8c that will recognize the hdd.

Seeing that modchip does not support DEV1, DEV2 I wouldn't bother installing it too mc, unless you want to install fmcb 1.7 to a mc, then use that to launch hddloader from the mc, usb or the PS2 hdd

You would use the cd method of installing fmcb. Now I have no idea if it will work after installed with your modchip or not, as it works with some and not others.

Your other alternative is too just burn hdloader 8c to a disc and then run it that way with the modchip.

So do I understand correctly that using HD Loader does NOT require the console to be Chip modded?

I have a Buffalo 250GB external Network/USB drive that I'd like to connect via network cable, but I need to know where I can download HD Loader. I assume its something that you burn to a disc, load the disc in the console and it reads the HD and lets you load up from there.

But if I have HD loader as a disc in the console, how would I copy the games to the HD?

No, you do need a way to be able to launch an ELF file or load the disc.
Whether it be a cheat disk and install fmcb 1.7 , swap magic etc.

Ok that is a USB drive and you would need USbAdvance.elf

Hddloader.elf is for PS2 IDE hdd. You need a FAT PS2 or V12-V13 slim to have an IDE hdd.

You can get USBAdvance at sksapps.com , just scroll down to USB Advance, the utilities used to FORMAT the drive and transfer games is just under it.

Compatibility list is there also or there is one here. You can translate the last link in Yahoo! Babel Fish translator.

Check post #14 here for a new USBAdvance utility.

Tutorial on how to install UsbAdvance and transfer games. This is of course using Swap Magic, but the basic idea is there.Another guide is here.

Just a helpful thread with some links to help with changing IOPRP and DNAS images.

Acutally, the drive is USB capable to allow devices to connect to it as it acts as a server. I cant connect it to a computer via USB, I can only connect it as a drive on my network or (hopefully) directly to my slim PS2.

I have HDAdvance 3 and USBExtreme.....USBXtreme sisnt seem to work with my other portable Lacie Drive - it saw the games on it but when I asked them to load, it just locked on a black screen. Now I think Im going to give the Buffalo HD a try with HDAdv., but it doesnt appear to be recognized by the PS2 - no connectivity light on the drive. I have regular network cable and a crossover cable.

My console is not modded so wouldnt it be useless for me to burn discs with the USBAdvance.elf file? woudlnt they be ignored by the console as a NOT retail disc?

Ok in your post previous, you didn't say you had the HDAdvance 3 or USbExtreme disk.

UsbExtreme disk does not need your PS2 to be modded, nor does HDAdvance.

Your Buffalo drive is probably not compatible with the PS2. It needs to be a USB External drive to work with UsbExtreme. The game you loaded on your Lacie drive may not be compatible or needs to have the IOPRP or DNAS image changed, or the drive is not compatible.

To use HDadvance 3 you need a PS2 IDE hdd, which you can only use if your PS2 is V12 or V13.

Cheers for the info m8, sorry about the late reply lost the link for the post and couldn't find it with the search engine.

Network adapters on the way and I've got a working 0.8c disc.
