Ps2 Hdd

Hey all, just wondered if someone could clarify for me how i got about running games from a ide hdd on me PS2, as i've checked around for the past week some people say it needs a mod chip, some say swap magic, others so it can be done without. If anyone can give me the easiest way wud be much appreciated.

And am i right in asuming that you can't do it with a ide hdd on the slimline model?

I use Free McBoot 1.6 and HD Loader 0.8c on my old PS2 w/a 500 GB IDE hard drive. Think you could use USB Advance on a slim with an external hard drive, but compatability sucks and it's slower. Search around sksapps and youll find what you need.
