the popularity of Wi-Fi with Mario Kart DS?

how popular do you think the online community will be with the introduction of mario kart DS. I mean even the underwhelming double dash got a couple of people off their asses to connect the cubes via X-link or another method. The DS is hugley popular as is the Mario Kart franchise: big enough so to get the DS on its way to Xbox live status, only with much more convenience and appeal. What to my fellow Maxconsole-ers think?

I dont usually go outside the GC forums, but this game looks awesome and I want to buy it the day it is released. From what has been released so far, the Nintendo Wifi Connection is already far better than XBOX Live in many ways. For one, NO SERVICE FEE!!!!! Also, it has a way better buddy list and you are able to carry your system around so you and a friend could tag-team 2 other people online.

Don't want to flame but for one, i don't think that it is free can surpass live, free doesn't mean better.
Otherwise i think it will be nice addy to the ds but still, it's better to look at a big screen then a little for 3 hours lol.

After reading IGN's article on how the NWC is not as good as Xbox live, I realize that not everything i said is true. However, the absolute best and most original games out right now have been coming to the DS (arguable, I know). Mario Kart has been said to be the best kart racer ever, and from the videos I've seen, I'd tend to agree. Like almost every console or handheld game, multiplayer is a value-add, and free online match-ups has a high value-add to me.

Americans can walk into any McDonalds around their country and play online. I understand that Xbox Live has better features, but none of them are available when your plumping up on Big-Macs.

Mario kart is the second DS must have this year, if every single person who buys it tries it online at least once, it could easily gain ground on every online service very quickly.

I know what you mean. I finally got it setup but it takes forever for it to find people to play against, but when you do it kicks ass.

Waiting for players right now is like watching paint dry. I hope that these are only server 'hic-ups' that any online service has when first put under heavy load. But considering that this game has been out for 2 whole days does say that they did not plan for everything. I want to pwn or be pwnd online!

Its in the NWC manual
->Nintendo WFC
->Nintendo WFC Settings
->Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Settings
->(One of the connection buttons)

Now there are two ways to set it up, use the search option or set it up manually. If your router is not set up for SSID broadcast you cannot set it up automatically. I'm assuming you have a laptop or desktop running on wireless, but if not, you may want to check that you have the wireless turned on in the router.Also, try updating to the latest firmware on your router. It may be a simple incompatibility with the DS that was fixed in past updates.

If all else fails, try at a local hotspot (like McDonald's [US only]) or else hope your DS doesnt look opened make a warante trade.

Hope this helps, post your solution.
