PSP 1000 LCD Screen

Ok so I have had my PSP 1000 for 3 years now, hacked and loving it. If it wasn't for the hack value I never would have bought it in the first place. After the years the faceplate got scratched and hard to see through so I decided to replace it and replace the LCD while I was at it cause mine had two stuck pixels. Well new faceplate is awesome but the new LCD screen had so many dead pixels it wasn't even funny and the black levels were horrendous. So I put my screen back in and accepted it but two days later the screen just randomly died (got scan lines and turned all white) even tho I was playing it lots with no problems...

Anyway after two more screens on ebay I still have 1 dead pixel and the black levels are horrible. My original one has black levels just as good (even a bit better in some situations) then the PSP 3000 screen. Everything looks washed out and I cant stand playing on it.

With the release of the GT bundle and the mystic silver 3000 I bought it (cause I refuse to buy the piano black version) and got chickhen and 5.03 Gen-B going on it and so far its doing everything I need (mainly play PSone games on it) but the chickhen randomness is so annoying... and if a game comes out later I want I have to worry about firmware...

So...

1. Anyone know where I can get an actual original PSP 1000 screen (these screens on ebay are the same model but they are NOT the same... black levels are too horrible)?

2. What options do I have for a new or mint condition hackable PSP? I like my PSP 3000 and if I had flashed CFW on it I wouldn't be in this perdiciment. I am very picky about scratches and the condition of my units so used is not really an option...

please remind Sony center to do yr LCD only n nothing else. I ever encountered people who sent theirs in n outcame an OFW PSP. They tend to upgrade yr fw to the latest. So warn them or better still, send it with an OFW then redo the fw later. Don't want Sony to black list u. Just my opinion only. Cheers.

By the sime sony finish with you it will be cheaper to buy a new or as new unit, their charges reflect the fact that they want you to buy new and not repair, unless you can get them to sell you a genuine screen and fit it yourself.
As for far east lcd screens on fleabay these are 99% of the time poor quality thats why i go for genuine parts when i order for friends etc, saves falling out later when the part fails early.

Yeah I was thinking about that... putting on a OFW that I know is dowgradeable easily (so 3.3 or earlier...) and asking just for the LCD. Even if it they do just replace the unit with a refurb (there refurbs are nice tho as they put new faceplates on them) then as long as its an original PSP-1000 ill be fine.

Where can I get the genuine part though? The model matches and it looks identicle otherwise... how do I know? I was purchasing from US sellers... but that doesn't mean thats where they came from I know.

What about when it hangs or glitches or battery goes dead or who knows? IT's a pain, I would prefer flashed CFW and the knowledge that I can update to later CFW with ease. This will do for now tho.

Are you using ChickHEN Mod? It works in one or two attempts everytime for me. The regular ChickHEN R2 took 25 tries once so I nearly gave up till I found the mod version.

yeah that's true about sending your psp to sony, they will give you a refurbished model, which i think you can get back with the same update you first had, you have to ask, i sent my first psp back to them in 2006,when the face plate broke and later the psp died after extreme use, they gave it back to me with the same update which was 2.60.I did ask them that would i get back an identical psp they said yes.AGAIN you have to ask them because they do give you a repaired model.it cost me £60 i think it is worth it, just a long you get back what you want.

Yeah I agree it is definitely worth it... especially considering the money I've wasted already trying to get a replacement screen...

When I did it with my PS3 I asked for the identical model (original 60gb with the PS2 hardware) and that is what I got.

I will look into chickhen mod....
