(1) NPN Transistor - $.99

(1) pack of 1k Resistor - $.99
(1) Thread needle - free
(1) Db9 Female connector - free (chopped up a serial cable i had laying around)
(1) Instructions from xbox-scene - free
(1) modded lite-on drive - priceless
anyways all you need is to power your drive after the aquired part. you can use the xbox360, but I bought the xbox connector v2 for ~$18 on ebay (I got paranoid after hearing about MS being able to detect if you power your drive using the xbox)

Hi, can you link us to the instructions on xbox-scene? It seems none of us can find it. I'm interested in doing this. Also would you mind giving a little bit more insight on this process?

That's great, thanks! Did you buy your transistor, or harvest it from something else? I want to make sure it is the right kind...

A more detailed Tut.
Code:
http://xbox-experts.com/e/tutorial.php?n=flashyourliteonf
Maplins m8
Code:
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=32952&&source=14&doy=21m1
Trransistor
BC546 N57AC x1 = £0.12p
Code:
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=2162
Resistors
Min Res 10k M10K x1 = £0.15p
Min Res 1k M1K x1 = £0.15p = Total 42p to flash ur liteon .
You can salvage the other basic parts .
You could go the fully monty and splash out another £1.20 or so and grab a D-sub 9pin female but That`s stretching it .
I have tested mine in hyperterminal setting (com1 ,9600,8,none,1,none) and it works nps with loopback .
To test , bridge points 2+3 on serial com ,whatever you type on keyboard will show in hyper.
5v test, NO bridge, use spear probe on 5v source and watch all them funny characters appear in hyper = working .
I have every confidence this will extract and flash ,when I find the time that is .
Just make sure you connect the transistor correct .eg: C=live B=Spear E=GND and have a read GOOD READ
of that thread for a better understanding before you Apply this method .
Note the points on the Transistor via the .pdf ,As this is where most peeps
go wrong.
Probs to Author: yaywoop for this ingenious gizzmo .

FYI, I built that device yesterday and was able to extract my key and flash my Lite-On succesfully! (For free, and without waiting for parts!)
I had a few resistors kickin around, and I used a transistor that I tore out of an old broken power supply in my basement. I also already had a female DB9 from an old project, and used a multimeter probe as the "probe/spear"
The device took about ten minutes to make, and cost me 0 dollars. I may take some photos of this lovely ghetto macgyver contraption later on. =P
If anyone with any very basic electronic skills is interested in flashing their liteon, I highly recommend it!

you need to have a connection for the rs232 on the rear of your pc.the connection at the side where you got the power into the kit i think that is a connection for the rs232 i think.
the lite does not have support on it for usb where the ck3 pro has a small usb port onboard for a usb lead.but, the ck3 pro has a rs232 connection on it to wire it to the rs232 on the rear of the pc.so now you need a connection for that wire to the pc.

if you dont have that wire you dont have the full kit.
