Analyst: Wii has saved the PS3 by blocking Xbox 360

An analyst has provided an interesting though that the Wii has saved the PS3. But how you may ask? By the Wii blocking potential sales of the Xbox 360 and limiting the chance for Microsoft's machine to become a run-away success.

“The main danger Sony faced was that the Xbox 360 would become embedded as the system of choice. Instead consumers flocked to the Nintendo Wii. The Xbox 360 had solid sales, but they have not been enough to give Microsoft anywhere near a breakout market position,” the report explains.

First they say the Wii does not compete with the 360 or the PS3 and now all of a sudden it competed against the 360. You people need to make up your mind. As a matter of fact, a lot of people who purchased Wiis also purchased the 360, hence the coining of the term Wii60.

Nintendo said it doesn't compete because it was in a different market.. until sony and ms turned their aim and Nintendo realised they could sell it.

I don't think the Wii blocked anything Nintendo found a new market, those looking for the latest and greatest still bought the other consoles maybe even all of them.

I dont know...cant speak for anyone but myself but I know dozens of people with Wii's but only a couple of them had PS2's or Xboxes last gen. I really think if it hadnt had the appeal it does the majority of Wii owners just wouldnt have picked up a console at all this gen.

Ive said this many times... there is more parents in the word than hardcore gamers.
meaning.. parents can actually do something with their kids.
meaning men and women can play at the same time also
meaning kids are allowed to play wii since its not as violent

I know some friends who have kids and a wii was a perfect gift for the son and the daughter. Nintendo just appeals to a bigger audience.

They just failed to deliver on games outside of those.

wiisports sold more copies of the wii than anything... that was brilliant... self promoting demo disk... fun enough to make people wanna buy a wii... short enough to give them hope full version games would eventually be better.

wii helped 360 as much as wii hurt ps3.. meaning no wii.. and ps3 would have got more sales no matter how you look at it.
Yes 360 would have more as well but so would the ps3.

Thanks to wii we had a good price war... without wii... sheesh we may have been paying 1 grand and 500 bones for a 360.

If the Wii didnt exist Yes the xbox360 may have had more sales but then so would of the PS3

lol not so far fetched, 360 would be first by a large margin an sony would probably even be more behind, if there was no wii or if wii had sold like the gamecube or whatever.

but still sony would never let ps3 fail, (this isn't sega) no matter how much it already cost them, sony is too big of a name and they've been in the video game market way too long, not to mention "owning" last 2 gens in a row pretty much.

at this point the ps3 can only get better an better, which it should, or else all of that money sony spent will be for nothing, but i think the former.

I'm amazed at how clear information can get twisted by marketing folks.

wii won this generation. Simple as that. Look at the sales.
xbox360 is second
ps3 is third

sony needs to deal with it and read the market and their customers better in the future. Personally I think the handheld market is the future here. Sales numbers show that and the hardware is becoming very impressive.
