Sony: We're beating Xbox 360 for video on demand content
Sony has denoted that it is beating the Xbox 360 in terms of video on demand content as PSN now has 40 studio partners offering movies which makes the PS3 the biggest provider.
Sony has laid the VOD smackdown on Xbox 360 by announcing it now has 40 studio partners offering movies to its on-demand service – making it the biggest provider console-wise of downloadable content.
Although the service is yet to reach UK shores – it's expected sometime this month – the amount of content available in the US version of the service is a pretty good indication of what to expect.

I figure it would. Free online service means it's cheaper in the long run.

A service with a quarter of the movies everyone else has for £7 a download?

As long as these "video on demand" services have IP based region locking then they are useless and complete garbage.

Sony sure was smart to add a over priced dvd player to their machine, so 3 years later they could focus on downloading movies instead.

Not much of a feat when you own half the studios your bragging about having deals with....

its not trolling when its true...
facts are facts... sony was behind bluray, Microsoft was behind downloads. Sony saw Microsoft have success with it.. so they copied it, just like most of psn.
Granted psn is free and netflix is a cool addition for psn, while microsoft still doesnt allow silver live members (free) to access netflix. It still doesnt change the fact had it sucked on the 360, sony wold not be behind it. But after seeing it do good, so wants in on that action.
But we are hearing less and less about the blu ray drive in ps3. As they gradually shift focus away from that.
But like the RIAA sony is a major player in the MPAA... so, it is what it is... as mentioned above.
Its like giving credit to a coach in the NFL for building a great football team... yeah he might do good... but the owner is behind the scenes paying people to play there.

Exactly what I was thinking. And I think it's interesting that Sony is going this route(probably not much of a choice). As their Blu-ray is doing ok, but VOD either buying or via Netflix is where it's going. MS saw this years ago, hence the pre-buying exclusive(for a while anyway) of Netflix. Times are changing and Physical media is going away, like it or not. Hear that GameStop?
