Rumor: MS to make Xbox 360 Arcade cheaper than the Wii?

According to a dutch site Microsoft is planning a spectacular price drop on the Xbox 360 Arcade. They say MS will cut the price of it to 199 Euros on February 14th making it cheaper than the Wii. Earlier we reported on Microsoft's strategy for the 360 in 2008 including attracting non-classic gamers & gamers from Japan/continental Europe. Could MS really be planing such a spectacular price cut?

According to some rumours which I have learned, Microsoft will come thus on rather short period with a spectacular lowering. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Meanwhile I by means of reliable sources have learned that Microsoft these Xbox will carry out 360 lowering also effectively.

On 14 February 2008 the price of the Xbox 360 arcade omlaag go to €199. you reads it good: concerning something more than one week the Xbox 360 cheaper will be than the Wii.

It has been not yet confessed what Microsoft will do exactly with the prices of the Xbox 360 premium and Xbox 360 elite, but the chance is large that also these prices will go omlaag. You heard it complete first.

I may have an xbox but if at any point the Xbox out sells the wii, I will walk into my corner shop naked and sing: "Singing in the rain" and I'll ask if they have any: "Schlong caps" have all that video'd, upload it to youtube and make a thread with a link.

Xbox Arcade = Worthless. The 360 is junk without the HDD. Plus I don't think the lazy gamers and japanese like ads all over their system and to pay $50 a year just to play online.

Include a HDD, remove the ads, and make online play free, then we can talk.

There are plenty of gaming systems cheaper than the Wii, and they still can't beat it. Take the Vii for example. The problem is that people don't really WANT the Xbox 360 Arcade.

I'm not saying that can't change...but Guitar Hero and Rock Band alone aren't going to sell it to the casuals. I mean, it will sell it to some of them.. but this might just succeed in making the Wii suddenly appear like a "premium" console lol

Arcade comes with a 256mb memory unit with the game limit at 150mb. Pointless if you like more than two or three xbla titles.
Get rid of the arcade lower the premium to £200 we all know the 20gb drive is overpriced.

I wouldn't buy one but it's a great business strategy - it would be cheap enough to be a second/third console for those who already own a Wii/PS3. and half the price of the PS3.

Regardless of it not having the things that add value to the PS3 (the Blu-Ray & harddrive primarily) people in videogame shops will look at both consoles and go for the one that costs half as much (and cheaper/a bigger library of games, performs better etc).

Ya, but they might like to be able to maintain a friends list, be able to see their friends online, and be able to organize and join a game easy though. And imagine the novel idea of being able to actually communicate with the other players online, that is a revolutionary idea! For these features $50 is a hell of a deal considering you can't (and probably won't ever) do those things on the Wii.

There isn't a lot of bad things you can say about the Wii but online play is non-existent. Trying to use that in a Wii vs 360 argument is silly. The other points you list are valid.

I don't think the 360 will outsell the Wii, but it is a great advantage to have such a powerful system available for a lower price.
I'm sure when/if this happens, Nintendo will drop the price of the Wii (maybe ;)).
