Microsoft have responded to those who were speculating why Xbox 360 Elites are so difficult to find. They simply say that demand is outstripping supply on the 360 Elite right now, and that no model lineup changes are planned at this time.

Naturally curious as to why Xbox 360 Elites are so difficult to find, we went straight to the source -- and Microsoft tells us that demand is simply outstripping supply on the 360 Elite right now, and that no model lineup changes are planned at this time -- especially since the Elite is their hot seller. Well, so much for that conspiracy -- guess we're back to reading the PS3 tea leaves.

I'm sorry, but it seems to me they are trying to pull a nintendo here. It's hard for me to believe that at this time with no major releases, or price drops that they can't make enough elites to meet the supply. I vote PR stunt on this one, I could be wrong though.

Your opinion is worthless because you don't seem to be confident about what you say :D

Actually everyone I know who was looking for a 360 before Christmas has having a hard time finding them. Harder to get the Elite then a Wii, at lest here anyway. Retailers were getting them but selling them right away, just like the Wii. So their is some truth to this.

I do suspect that they under estimated the demand and focus on the Pro system instead, I guess they'll fix that now.

LOL! well I'm not saying I'm 100% right, just that it sounds fishy to me.

Some wise guy... err wise man (wise guy sounds like a gangster) once said "Wise are those who seek out wisdom and admit that there are many things they don't know, ignorants are those who pretend to know everything" or something like that :p

....I do suspect that they under estimated the demand and focus on the Pro system instead, I guess they'll fix that now.

See now that I can believe with no problem at all.

Demand over supply... what demand?!

They arent that easy to find around me...not like the Wii, but still have to be searched out. The most common consoles around there are the 360 premiums and the PS3 40gigs.

can't find any around my area. haven't seen any in the wild for several months. seen the arcade, premium and even the halo edition, but only the arcade recently.

but all seem to disappear from stores rather quickly.

must be all those rrod's huh? especially the ones that are under warranty but refuse to send them in.....

i wouldn't mind having a second 360 (one with hdmi), but i'm gonna get a second ps3 for the bedroom before getting another one (360), i'd much rather have the hi-def player for the bedroom and my 360 works just fine for what i want.

I would say there is no demand, no one is asking for the Elite. On the other hand, in this area it seems there's barely or no stock at all, so there's your sign of low stock.

BTW, Something to know about the Xbox if you're planning to buy an Elite:
The box of the Arcade core pack, displays that the Arcade system does NOT have HDMI, however, it DOES have HDMI. So that's good to know if you want nice connectors and don't care about a hard-drive or whatever (a box for only playing wmv-hd / DVD / hd-dvd ??)

EDIT: well there you have it kneehighspy :p

Like I said, that's not true (at least not in my area).
For the majority the Pro/Premium pack is without a doubt the best choice.
- All HDTV's (should?) have Component, which is fine.
- The majority doesn't have a receiver that splits HDMI 1080 w/ DD 5.1 and sends it to tv/speakers.
- Sending HDMI to a TV may be more convenient, but it certainly is useless to let your Plasma eat DD5.1.
- I don't see what's wrong with a 20GB HDD, like I'm gonna keep trailers and demos of games I already have, if you want storage, setup your PC as a media sharing server. (media center, windows media connect, transcode360)

This thread's title is basically taking the founding principle of Economics, and making it seem like its a new discovery. Of course the reason its hard to find is because the demand > supply. The same is true every single time something (which is still in production) is out of stock.

Lmao, what a joke. I live in Canada and they make walls out of elites at my nearby futureshop and bestbuy. The wiis, although alot less common then the xbox and ps3, can still be found pretty easily.

And I ask, who said supply was high in the first place?
Pointing out the obvious is easy, if you can't find it then demand is higher than supply.. Keep in mind this is valid even if there is zero supply and one customer demanding it.

Can you conclude that demand is high? NO.

In Economics terms, yes you can say that. If they produce 1 and 2 customers demanding it then demand is higher than supply.

Yes demand would be higher than supply but it still wouldn't be [High] which is the the factor that makes a real difference.

um only half right there. yes, the arcade has a HDMI *port,* but if you read the box closer, thats not what it is saying it is lacking. the elite comes with a HDMI *cable* but not the arcade. they are trying to show that all systems are the same except for the differences listed. the cable and the hard-drive is about the only real difference from the arcade to the elite. everything else is pretty much splitting hairs as far as im concerned.

I would like to see M$s numbers on how many elites they are shipping. I suspect they are trying to give the perception that there are a hot item that sells out just like the wii. If you look at M$s overall sales numbers (for all versions of the console), sales are not that high.

My guess is M$ is creating a false sense of demand because they have the ability make more elites by cutting production of one of the other versions. They have not done that so it sounds like they want the keep levels low so the elite sells out and generates the same sort of press that the wii has gotten.
