Testing a new 65nm Xbox 360 in a laptop configuration

Ben Heck, the famous modder who has produced complexities such as the Xbox 360 laptop and one handed Xbox 360 controller has recently been testing a new 65nm Xbox 360 in a laptop configuration. From his latest findings, he concludes the newest Xbox 360's have a large heat reduction and this is only in the CPU as far as he can tell. He goes on to indicate that his findings are proof that the Xbox 360 is improving and you should just go out there and buy the system in confidence.


So that’s pretty much what I’ve found thus far. The newest Xbox 360’s have a large heat reduction from the older models, but it is all in the CPU as far as I can tell. Once the GPU goes 65nm (hopefully this year) the thing will be so cool it will no longer double as a space heater. Still, as-is, it’s a great step forward. Hopefully this is further proof that the Xbox 360 is improving and those of you on the fence should just buy one already! Discuss how to find the newest models below… (I’ll let you slueth it out)

Here’s also hoping I can finish up this laptop and show it on the site. Everything is done but the heat issue, and it’s quite the looker.

Even if the 360 never had RRoD I still would not like it. Two of the big reasons is I don't like Live and think it should be free and it is REALLY loud. Also the PS3 can do many things the 360 can't that i wish it would.

The only one that I really care about is in game music. I really wish my PS3 could do that. Besides that I can copy all my music/video/pictures from my computer to my PS3 unlike the 360. I can backup all my data on my ps3, don't have to pay an outrageous price for a memory card, also themes, wallpapers, multiplayer.... are all free on the ps3. I am not sure what grade of live you need to download demos but they are free on the PS3. Also you can install Linux so it is almost like getting a free basic PC with your PS3. Playstation Network is always up and running and free. These are just some things that i can think of off the top of my head. Since i am on a rant... the 360 feels, look, and sounds cheap when compared to the PS3 even my girlfriend said it looked like crap when she first saw it. If you think i am a fanboy from saying all this you are wrong. last gen the best console was the xbox 1 and i have both 80gb ps3 and xbox 360 elite not like some people on here that only have a 360 and have never used a ps3 (or vice versa) and think it is a piece of crap. I am not trying to convince anyone to get a ps3 or sell there xbox this is just what i think.

Things to look for- 175W Power Supply #LOT 734 or higher TEAM FDOU Some Falcons have a 203W power supply, you have to use the flashlight trick for that.

on topic: the 360s problems are with the GPU, Loud dvd drive, and loud fan. all they have done is fix something that is not broken

theres no point in buying a new xbox because the cpu is 65 nm but the cpu is not the problem, until they revise the gpu, the new 360's will still get rrod

sure, 360 can run EA sports games @ 60fps instead of 30fps:D
about the 65nm.. it helps, because there's much less heat inside the console, which helps gpu as well.

Thank you for liking the ps3 and not being retarded. you are one of like 5 people that hasnt pissed me off when singing the ps3's praises. hell will probably freeze before i get one, but i am mature enough to not fanboy the other systems and **** on the console i wont buy.

the ps3 does offer some great features, but its REALLY hard for me to look at any of that when i see sony behaving the way they do about the ps3. its going to be a long time before i reward them with my money, if ever.

I have to admit, it was a real shock I expect to find at least one that was actually a 3rod...but the closest I found was a DOA one which happens sometimes with all of them (look up wii or ps3 dead on arrival if you like). So was I supposed to just keep digging page after page till I found one?

So anyway its put up or shut time...how about you and your buddies spend the 10 minutes it took me to check your "shocking" revelation and find some actual examples for us rather than just spreading fud because you want to believe it.

I really think the biggest problem for fanboys right now is that the 3rod issue was seen my many as really being the last great hope for the ps3 to pull out of the basement...if that goes away or even just signifigantly diminishes its pretty much game over. Of course it doesn't mean the ps3 cant have a good run and a long life, but fanboys tend to think its "winning" or nothing since not "winning" means they must not be one of the cool kids or something. How-bout just grow up and enjoy the console you have and don't worry about whether it will somehow miraculously jump into first place.

If the 3rod issue is truly better, with the game library and userbase there is a good possibility that the PS3 could come in last, why does that have to be the end of the world? My favorite console last generation didn't even come in 3rd it didn't even make it to the finish but IMHO it offered the best value and had some of the best games so as far as I'm concerned it was no failure. The PS3 has already surpassed that console and will surely surpass the gamecube so even if it does end up 3rd it can still be a success.

THe new heatsink in the 360 is pretty beefy.... My 360 is still going on strong after 3 months.... I don't care much for fanboyism but the new 360 is still running pretty well.

I am not going to quote the entire thing but for what i did quote same here last get the xbox was the best. I am not here to make the PS3 the number 1 console i am just hear to read and pass the time and post some of my opinions. The fanboy banter gets me through the boring classes at school:D

The 360 can play in game music in any game weather the dev want it or not and that is what i want. I would currently love to have it in motorstorm or when i am searching the web.

which heatsink? new CPU heatsink looks 'weaker' than the last one, but still runs _MUCH_ cooler (based on a on awesome 'finger on heatsink' method). But the REAL solution is 65nm gpu, but still - 65nm cpu 360's work alright atm, which is really nice.
