Rockstar: We can almost gurantee GTA IV will outsell Halo 3

In an article revealing that GTA IV is to feature drunk driving and a strip club, an analyst has indicated hush hush promotional effect which is more viral than Halo 3's campaign could give GTA IV the edge. The analyst admitted that perhaps the first week sales of GTA IV won't be on par with Halo 3 but he can almost guarantee they'll probably outsell Halo 3 in the first year.


We wanted to completely rebuild the core mechanics and create a really slick, cool experience," Rockstar Games vice-president and "GTA IV" writer Dan Houser said following a 90-minute demonstration of the game.

Scandal or not, video game analyst Mike Hickey at Janco Partners expects five million copies of "GTA IV" will sell the first week of release, on par with last year's record-breaking US$300 million first-week sales of Bungie Studios' "Halo 3." Hickey says that Rockstar's hush-hush promotional effort - more viral, less in-your-face than the "Halo 3" campaign - could give "GTA IV" an edge.

"Maybe the first week 'GTA IV' sales won't do what 'Halo 3' did, but I can almost guarantee they'll probably outsell 'Halo 3' in the first year," said Hickey.

That choice is up to gamers, too.

not to mention both user bases had x-mas sales to get bigger. So the potential is there to outsell halo 3. Even saints row did decent sales when it came out a long time ago. But it will be fun to see what platform sells the most though. But the accomplishment will be if gta4 can outsell halo3 on just the xbox 360. That would be saying alot. after rockstar got shafted with the manhunt 2 crap, they deserve a big payday!

GTA4 is about quality not Quantity like halo3.It's my understanding (quantity wise) that the single player bit of halo 3 is extremely short... that said, I haven't seen a short GTA yet, and even when you are done with the regular missions in the previous games there was still tonnes of other stuff to do.

When it comes to value for your dollar, I've always like the GTA series ;)

Thats all Im gonna say to that, but back to the topic. GTAIV is huge and lord knows what both companys install base will be by then maybe close to 30 million worldwide? Who knows regardless multi platform i think will and should outsell halo 3. As far as on 360 its possible, because Id be willing to bet that most every gamer who owns halo 3 is also looking forward to gtaIV.
