View Full Version : GameCube production halted
It's a sad day for everyone who loves Nintendo's brightly colored cube. Nintedo has announced it will halt production and sell off the remaining inventory. Nintendo also promises their next generation console next year “that will have a big impact on the world”.
The production has not been halted forever, but surely for a console manufacturer to resort to this shows a definate problem in the sales of the Cube.
Whats your view ? Is this just a standard procedure ? Or are Nintendo struggling really bad ?

the only thing that can change this situation imho is the release of a mod for the cube to play backups. if this gets released 'soon' then sales of the cube will explode. im certain of this. i just hope they dont ditch it as it def has the best games out of any console.
sales of the cube would not explode. dont be silly. the number of people who would buy one to mod one is in the tens of thouands. thats not nearly enough to make the figures they wanted for this year, not close ;x

Halting the production is sad to hear.. :(
However the sucessor of the GC is due to released spring 2005. Which lies more then 1.5 years ahead.. So let's enjoy the gc for that time..
A modchip should boost the sales a little bit up, but it is too late to let it change the mind of nintendo and/or the gamemakers.. For more succes Nintendo should make the next console a little less thight :p So that it can profit from more buyers in the beginning ;)

Jinkies !!
Just as I'm thinking of buying one I read that they are being phased out.
Such a shame.
If only some group would bring a mod out that would mean it would run unsigned code I'm sure it would gain a niche market.
That's what's contributed to the sucess of the Xbox and PS2.
Nintendo may not like to admit it but I think that this is part of their downfall.
Ahh well, I'll keep my peepers peeled for a ridiculously cheap GC.
:p
