Hi

Ive heard a few horror stories, people install 1.9g on their wiikey namely to play galaxies and bam a few days later they are miserable little puppies. i too have had this issue, my drive makes a funny noise, i can always load a backup but after a few minutes of gameplay my drive gives up and i get an error message "an error has occured please turn off your console and consult your wii manual." Im thinking is this the new firmware, i was playing the wii to death with the old firmware for over a year, but hang on it still recognises its a backup and loads so the chip is doing its job, right. is there a glitch in the way this firmware reads discs or what i just dont understand!!!

So im thinking can i take the chipped board of this d2a drive and fit it into a new wii with the d2b (missing pins version) or d2c. Is the drive itself identical??

also whats happened to wiikey.cn, is it worth me trying to load the old firmware back on, where can i download it???

thanks

Aside from the fact that 1.9g is a risk, it sounds like in your case the 'playing to death' may have worn out your lens. Especially when you have been using other than verbatim discs (don't know what you are using ? ).

Anyway, putting your used drive (with the worn out lens) in a new Wii will not help since the problem is with the part you are trying to replace then.

edit : just read your post again, replacing the board and not the entire drive.. hmm... worth a shot.

You can downgrade to 1.9b by first using the recovery disc and then the update disc for the wiikey.

Cheap media will wear out your lens, this won't show in the beginning, but after a while (weeks, months) you will get more and more DRE's.
