For anyone still not being able to burn the config or region disc here is how (using firmware 3.1U, E or J) Need Gamecube Gamepad!
1. Download from wiikey.cn Wiikey update 1.9g and Config disc 1.3, use WinRAR to extract it.
2. Download MultiGame ISO Creator v3.2.4F, use WinRAR to extract it.
3. Do not use filechop or fixsize.
4. Go to where you extracted the MultiGame ISO Creator v3.2.4F and open MultiGameISOCreator.exe
5. Now click on Add ISO and add the bootdisc(US for north amercia, Pal for mainly Europe, and Jap for most of asia) image of wiikey 1.9b then again click on add iso and add the config 1.3 disc (same region stuff).
6. Now that you've added config disc 1.3 it'll say config 1.2 just ignore it.
7. Now we are not yet ready to burn the Iso (or gcm) file. Look at the top right corner see region select your region.
8. Now click on Create MultiGame Iso and save it wherever you want to(advanced stuff: to change the file extension write your file name then .iso or .gcm i used .iso).
9. Now burn it with IMGBurn (or whatever you burn with) at 4x speed o (tested and Worked!)
10. Now that its done burning you must be wondering my wii wont read this it wont reconize it, it doesnt have enough memory on it well test it your self! If its not working then try burning with Nero (its really weird if it doesnt work).
11. Now this is the last step!...............enjoy playing updated and you're done.
Any Questions? then put a message on the fourm or quote.

why is 1.9B in this guide? You do not need B for anything, just 1.9G..
and the check your connections error means you have a crappy chip most likely i'm afraid

you only have to install 1.9G you can delete B. after that run the 1.3 config disc.
if the update/config don't run then first run GCOS.

Cheers. I got the impression you had to run all the updates in order for it to play the games and the 1.9g was just so you could play mario galaxy.

hello guys and thanks for the guide and the links, stupid question i followed the first guide using 1.3 and the thing for mario and if i understood well your burn them togther on the same disk as one? this is what i did and now the pc detects the disk as 7mb but before i burnt it it was 70mb (i havent installed my wiikey yet it arrives soon just trying to get everything ready before it arrives) is this normal? and when i put in the wii it says it can't read the dvd (which i think is normal as its not modded yet).
can you tell me the size of your final dvd and if i burn each one on a dvd and install or on one dvd?
Many thanks in advance:)

Anyone getting this error you have to use filechop cause the 1.9g.iso has to be about 1.35gb big before burning, not sure why he states not to use filechop an just use multigame creator when the file is only about 30 to 40mb file size after you run it threw multigame creator, i kept on getting the same error like everyone else till i realized that this was the problem, hope this helps a lot of you guys there were getting the error test failed.

try booting mario galaxy. doesnt work -> 1.9b or below.
try booting audio-fix needed gamecube games like pikmin 2. Sound bugz -> below 1.9b.
But it does not matter at all what version you have, just upgrade to 1.9G. You can do this straight away from the oldest wiikey firmware.

no 9 means open programe called imgburn, click the + symbol and find the correct iso on your hard drive. then burn it to a blank dvd-r i use verbatium and burn at 4x speed. This prog is good because it verifys the dvd.
the links at the bottom of his post use them, extract them with winrar to get the iso.
i used the gcos 1.3 config disk and backups and originals work.
any probs pm me.

mario galaxy original disc will always run. but backup you need 1.9G. If it works, then it's already updated :)

Now I have a bit of strange problem. I've modded about 50 wii's now but never had this problem before.
I have installed a genuine wiikey on a cut leg. The install went fine no bridges but it wont read any burnt discs. Originals still play fine. I have changed the wiikey for a new one thinking it must be a duff chip but exactly the same problem.
I have read somewhere that some people have had to hex edit a gcos file to get it run to initialise the wiikey but in these cases it wouldnt play originals either.
Can anyone shed any light on this?
The next step is to pull my own wii apart and try swapping chips around but I dont really want to be doing this is I dont have to.

If you’re not booting config disk 1.3 at all it sounds like you have some kind of bad solder point issue most likely on the 3 missing pin fix you did. As much as you don't want to I think swapping chips with your working wii is a good idea. That way your installing a chip that’s all updated and you completely rule out any chip problems. If you could take a picture of your 3 pin fix it would be nice to see how you well you did it. (Camera Tip: Hold a magnifiying glass in front of your digital camera and you can get some great close up detail)
Now one thing you brought up that was VERY valuable was your mention of Hex Editing. I got a batch of chips that had this problem from Divineo. When you install them they won’t boot originals or backups but will boot the config disk v1.3 Problem is the config disk fails to load completely.
Solution for me was I had to make 2 config disk 1.3's and hex edit one of them.
So here is how it goes.
STEP 1) Burn a config disk 1.3 the normal way (use the filechop thing). Label it Config 1.3 Disk 2
STEP 2) Open the config1.3.iso you used in STEP 1 in a hex editor. Search Google for HxDen it should work prefect.
STEP 3) Edit Header of iso to match data in this picture
http://www.boxxdr.com/hexedit.gif
STEP 4) Save Iso and burn it. Label it Config 1.3 Disk 1
Now you’re ready to try it.
-Boot from Disk 1. You will see a screen asking for the correct 1.3 disk.
-Swap for untouched 1.3 disk and press reset button.
-Once 1.3 has loaded set the region override to "ON"
-Save the settings and reboot the Wii.
Your WiiKey is now fixed and you should be able to boot backups and config1.3 disk 2 fine. Still you will need to update it to 1.9g if you want Galaxy to work.
I ripped my hair out for a long time until I found this fix so I thought I would re post it here.
If all else fails as a last resort you can build a simple WiiKey jtag programmer and pre-update all chips to a proper 1.9g firmware before installing them.

did parts 1-9 (I'm at work - cant update Wii yet)
so I added these three files
bootdisc.pal.iso 40736KB
wkupdate.1.9b.pal.iso 40704KB
pal.iso 6912KB
after burning that multi ISO disc it seems that there are now only these files in that dvd:
boot.catalog 2KB
bootldr.dol 2423KB
mfe-fs.bz2 4631KB
is this normal? iso after multigame ISO is 89344B and that one above only ~7000KB
will this work for sure?

A quick update.
The wii I was trying to do was running 2.1E so didnt have the problem that 3.0E > have.
I pulled apart my own wii and removed the wiikey. Installed it in the other wii and it worked a treat (I didnt touch and of the solder joints on the drive just removed the wiikey).
Then put the oiginal non working wiikey into my wii and sure enough no go, even with the altered image via boxxdr.
So tried the other wiikey and guess what put in the 1.3 config via gcos enabled region free and now everything works. So I now have 2 chipped wii's with 1 dead wiikey. :D

:D
The fix i described only works if the unaltered config disk 1.3 disk starts to load and fails. If it doesn't even start to load then there is a differnt issue and my fix won't help.
Also in my situation originals do not even boot untill i do the config trick and save the fixed settings.
Glad you figured it out.
