View Full Version : Xbox Live takes another hit on Christmas Day
Reports indicate that the Xbox Live service was not only down on December 23rd, but also outages were experienced by some on December 24th and December 25th. This most likely indicates that the influx of new Xbox 360 owners over the Christmas period was just too hot to handle for MS immediately.

My xbox live failed again today and I called XBOX live. They said Xbox live was down but my friends are on line.

We can spin it all the way we want there is no excuse for the service to be down , especially that day , since people pay for it . And dont give me the victim of their own success crap like wow apologists .. they are paid precisely , among other things , so stuff like that wouldnt happen .

yea people pay but that doesnt mean a service is indestructible. i can see how the servers would crash if a sudden surge of xbox's out of nowhere went online and im sure alot of online titles were given as gifts and xbox live gold cards MS has spent alot of money building its live network and If you ever saw the pics of the center youd see its pretty massive, im ok with the downtime its nice see MS is getting somewhere with live.

"Most Likely" new customers? That sounds like something they could tell immediately based on console IDs. If you ask me it sounds more like most customers having the day off work and signing on at the same time while most live staff are out of the office celebrating the holiday and unable to fix the problems that cropped up.

i would say this has a lot to do with it because how many people were getting 360s on sunday and monday?

Sudden surge ? They know how much they sell ... every constructors rubs their numbers in our face every week or every month , so hell yeah they know .
They also know about most of those gifts , so that excuse doesnt hold .
So YES when you pay for such service , and especially when others are free , so you're owed some stability . This isnt the first week end it happened besides .
Doesnt mean the service is indestructible ? Again the same old wow excuse , when they to know how many people are likely to go online . Well at least unlike WoW , the system waited christmas and big occasion to crash .

It's not down "most of the time" in fact it's down very rarely.
I personally was able to get on during the first outage (must have been a lucky one) and on the 24th. I never tried yesterday as I was too busy building all the kids stuff etc.
I do concede however that if you were unlucky enough to experience 3 days of outages in a single week then you do have cause to be VERY p!ssed off.
At about £36 a year I'm not one to moan about the cost, it's extended the longevity of many titles I would have sold on after completing... COD4 for one. Sure this is free for PS3 owners but I've spoken to quite a few people who claim you can sit around for ages waiting for a match or lounge to be populated on PS3, something which doesn't happen on 360.
MS must try harder. It's no skin off my nose but I bet it's annoyed a lot of people.

What the hell? I am no MS fanboy but service is down most of the time? I don't play 24/7 like most of you it seems but when I try to connect I always am able to. Don't tell me MOST of time. What are you looking for XBL for free for a year from MS from this bitching? Work on your single player games if you have to play a video game with every breath you take. *sigh*

Played all 3 days and it worked for me 100% just like it has for the last 2 years. If they are only down for 1 days out of the 2 1/2 years i have used live then i am vary happy.

Hmm, must have been a "where you live" thing or something because my friends and I have been playing fine yesterday and the last couple of days.

Same here, only time XBL has even been down for me, 1 and 360, was during updates.

Wow way to add bias and BS to the story . Like others mentioned its a rare thing , and not every couldnt access the service .
I'm just still saying that it shouldnt have happened given their numerous infos and the money paid for the service .

Then you must have a shitty connection then
I have played in several locations: Puerto Rico, USA, Virgin Islands, Bermuda etc and I always log in without problems or lag. I have never experienced the service to be "down". Not even during the release of halo 3 that I saw the game having more than a million player connected at a given time.

No problems here, but I did have a call from my cousin who couldnt get on with his new 360. My brother, nephew and I played pretty much all evening last night problem free. Wonder if its not live iself that needs boosting but their account creation/management system??

or maybe because sony put good security on their hardware?Doubt that. At least there is some kind of homebrew running on older firmware PS3's. You don't have that at ALL on the 360. Also, this wouldn't happen on the PS3 because there aren't nearly as many people playing on PSN. Also, most of the servers are controlled by the devs so it's up to them whether or not you have a good or shitty service. People need to quit actting like PSN is god. It's far from it and I'd rather play on Live anyday whether I had to pay or it was free just because it has a structure, something that only certain games have on PS3. Speaking of which, I should go play some resistance online.
