View Full Version : MS announces another price cut on 360 wheel - now $99
Microsoft has reportedly announced the second price cut for the official Xbox 360 steering wheel peripheral. The new $30 price reduction now puts a final price tag of $99 on the peripheral.
Microsoft Corp. on Thurs. announced a price cut for the Xbox 360 Wireless Racing Wheel peripheral by $30 to $99. We had reported in Sept. that MS had already planned a second price cut, but the company had decided to ride out the last price reduction until sales slowed. More after the jump:
The new price cut goes into effect immediately and includes a driver disc and a demo of the title Forza Motorsport 2. The peripheral, which features force feedback support, is compatible with most racing titles to include Forza Motorsport 2, Project Gotham Racing 4, Test Drive Unlimited, Need for Speed Carbon, and Nascar 08.
Microsoft in Aug. said it would offer a free retrofit for the Wireless Racing Wheel after complaints that a component in the wheel chassis may overheat and release smoke when the AC/DC power supply is used to recharge the peripheral.

At least its starting to be reasonable...I know folks that spend hundreds on their wheels and flght controls but I just dont get into either enough to plunk down that kind of coin for something that will only be used once in a while. Hmm i might actually concider one now...

or a steering wheel w/ no game....

Too bad the 360 doesn't support the Logitech G25 as that would be the best way to go, albeit about $100 more.

I've used this wheel over my friend's house on Burn Out and it was a lot of fun. Still not an extra $100 fun, but still I thought it was a very nice wheel. He didn't have any other driving games to play, which I thought was very strange that he paid $130 to just play the one game.

I bought this 3-4 months ago for this price at a wal-mart, took it back about 2 days later. I tried using this for Forza 2 and I think I had a better chance controlling the car with a reg controller while my eyes closed.

I just paid $150 AUD for one of these wheels ($139 USD) with Project Gotham Racing 3 (force feedback edition). A standard Controller is $79.95 here, + $40 for PGR3. the extra $30 premium over a standard controller is well worth it, so you get something like this!. It makes racing games a whole lot more fun, and sure, most games ARENT racing, but when u do play them, its great fun!

I just realised, there is no mention of PGR3 after the price drop. Am i safe in assuming that this is the reason for the price drop? $30 (USD) seems around right for the game.

All I have to say is that untill I got this (I bought it on a whim) I was never really a big fan of singleplayer driving games outside of burnout, flat out and multiplayer racing. Since I got this I am hooked, though admitedly I still mostly play flatout on it :). I was expecting somthing along the lines of the old sidewinder whell which I loathed, but I have to say this beats it hands down thanks to the greater travel on the wheel. It works great on the PC as well and being wireless it makes things easier when i want to play PC driving games on the TV. I'd have prefered a clutch and gearstick as well but using thr triptronic gears is like playing racing games in the arcade.
I have been looking at the top end logitech wheels for the PS3 but so far there is nothing out to justify me getting one until GT5 (not the expensive demo version). I will hold off getting one until then just incase a better wheel comes out before release.
Untill then I am very pleased with this wheel as are all my friends, 3 of which have since bought their own.
On a side note, I would expect you get PGR3 with it as it contains the driver update to enable you to use it properly.

I went to SEVEN stores last night and not one had the wheel. when I finally on my last attempt I found one at gamecrazy, and the guy behind the counter tells me, "Yeah I have one but I have to tell you it will burn your house down!"
I'd didn't buy it after that. :(
What can you tell me about it MaxC?

The guy was obviously miss-informed. MS are replacing the PSU on some early models just to be safe. There have not been any accidents as far as I am aware but they are playing it safe. Unless it is old stock, it is unlikley that any you get now would have this problem PSU, and if you do, MS will send you a new one. I bought mine 6 months ago and it doesn't have the problem PSU

Well you have to tweak the settings of course :) Out of the box driving, Oh hell no  lol. That's the first thing I was saying. I was like man, I can't keep this car on the road but once you tweak your settings on the wheel in the options. It gets better. ;)
