MS: We will sell more Xbox 360's next year than this year

The focus may be very much upon whether the PS3 can improve its sales and whether the Wii can maintain its impressive run, but Jeff Bell of MS has roared that they will sell more Xbox 360's next year than this year. Bell confidently remarked that MS don't want to trade places with anyone but acknowledged that the Sony brand overall has had previously greater staying power in other areas.


In Japan, where the Xbox 360 has far lagged Nintendo Co Ltd's (7974.OS: Quote, Profile, Research) Wii and Sony Corp's (6758.T: Quote, Profile, Research) PlayStation 3, Microsoft said recent and upcoming games from popular Japanese designers should boost sales.

"We will sell more consoles next year than this year," Jeff Bell, head of global marketing for Microsoft's games business, told Reuters in an interview.

"We don't want to trade places with anybody," Bell said.

He said that the Xbox 360 was strong in Britain and was gaining market share in France and Germany, but that Sony had also been lifted in Europe by a recent price cut for the PS3.

"Europe for us is still the swing," Bell said. "The biggest challenge is that Sony as a brand has had greater staying power than in other areas. Not just PlayStation 3, but Sony as a brand," Bell said.

Nope unlike you I havent drank any console manufacturers Kool-Aid. I know there have been problems with the 360, mine luckily has had no issues since launch. I own a Wii and a 360 as well, I pretty much buy them all each generation...and I call it as I see it. I know at least 2 dozen 360 owners locally and of all of them one has modded his machine he is now banned and we laugh at him regularly. Im not saying pirates dont exist, but they arent nearly as prevelant as some people on here seem to think.

I know many xbox owners whos 360s scratch discs, and they flat out rebuy the game. Sounds stupid to me and you, but I swear to you, They just buy a new copy instead of having MS get them a new one.

I know people whos Dvd drives have failed, and are way out of warrentee, instead of paying the 125 ish for ms to repair it, they just buy a new 360.

You can argue this all day, but its the story and the fact everywhere, Many many 360 owners have purchased more then 1 360 and more then 1 copy of a single game.

Just remember that when you flaunt high console sales and attach rates.

Oh I agree with that...there is always a certain percentage of stupid...I was that way last gen of course I didnt have a warranty worth a flip to fall back on but I still was a good little consumer and bought a second ps2 when I started getting dre's then a 3rd when that one had had dre's and finally a 4th when the slim just decided to stop spinning.

did you notice the graphics on xbox360 are poor compared to PS3 when using Large LCD HD TV ?? i did notice it ,even my grandma who is not a gamer said your other console has much better & sharper picture (meaning PS3),she even said xbox360 looks ugly & PS3 is really stylish :D.

also did you notice XBOX360 games do have PC feel to them even racing games ?? to me xbox360 feels like a portable gaming PC,no good old console feel to the games :confused:

Do you have a 1080p screen?

I believe that when the 360 or PS3 upscales games to any resolution, it lowers the native resolution to upscale the Picture on the HDTV. Probably why Virtua Fighter 5 looks better on PS3 in 720p than 1080p.

A good example is Uncharted on PS3. Sure it works in 1080p but in my opinion the game looks a hell lot better in 720p. Correct me if I am wrong here. I think it also depends on which game you purchase. Some games look good upscaled and some look worse from their native resolution.

Rainbow Six Vegas on PS3 is another example, 720p is fine and if you try higher such as 1080i/p the game looks absolutely horrible.

I think with your experience it actually depends on what game you have playing because a majority of games look better on 360 than PS3 but some PS3 games look better and could be to do with your HDTV.

Anyways back to the topic, depends whats up for release. I am not actually looking forward to any releases on 360 in the new year. I am all about buying the PS3s and Wii games such as MGS4 and MGO, Super Smash Bros Brawl, Mario Kart, echochrome, Burnout Paradise, GT5, LittleBigPlanet, Super Street Fighter II HD Remix, Haze, UTIII (if your in Europe waiting), Devil May Cry 4, Wipeout HD, PixelJunk Monsters, Nights: Journey of Dreams and Soulcalibur Legends

Thats the games I want in the new year!

You are talking pure drivel. Could you count on more then 1 finger how many reviewers have said that multi platform titles look better on PS3 than 360? There may be couple at most but you know as well as I do predominantly the 360 is kicking arse on the PS3.

As for people buying another copy of a game that gets scratched..... O.K so there may be an IDIOT or 2 on the planet (Gamestation even resurface your damaged games now in-store if this was an issue) but COD4 360 outsold the PS3 version by MORE than 3:1. Come on there aren't that many planks on the planet are there.

And finally, as already pointed out... If there are people that have brought a second console because of 3 ROD instead of waiting for MS to fix it (again there may be a few but I doubt it's at a big enough margin to REALLY rock sales), then that just goes to prove how much people value the 360 experience. If someones PS3 broke it's highly likely that a) they would be patient enough to wait for repair because there's fuk all to play on it anyway OR b) probably not buy another because it's such a lackluster experience anyway. People seem to think Sony have never released a console with issues. Part of the reason why I'm so off-hand about PS3 is because PS1 & 2 were such a bag of shite. I had a couple of each and it always seemed that the lasers failed just outside of warranty on them.

I think instead that 2008 will be a catastrophic year for the 360. The 360 greatest defect is the lack of "great titles." Gear Of War will perhaps go out in 2008, and then!?!.

The Ps3 has disposition many cuts of the price, not to speak of the avalanche of great titles. There is an I list endless.

Nintendo Wii has slow down a lot of the run.

Obviously I am not a that it makes statistics, therefore I don't know how it will go to end, but of a thing I am certain, what the in December 2008 we will already understand who the final winner will be.

Whoever buys his console via the auction is another legitimate customer that can then go on to use it in a manner for which it was sold. #1 nope sorry, I have better graphics on my 360 at the moment, there can be games that look better on PS3 but non of those I own ore playt gave better graphics. Maby you have to put your settings correctly on both you TV and Console. I have had friends over here and they found that the 360 graphics where little bit better of most games. But maby uits just my TV lol :p
#2 nope sorry I don't know if you ever playt a race game on a PC, but the feeling on PC (controller), 360 and PS3 are almost the same. just the controller of 360 feels better in my hand then the PS3 controller.

Its all just a matter of opinion I guess, my Sixaxis feels like a flimsy toy its too light and it doesnt seem nearly as durable as my trusty ds2. One of my controllers has a slight drift to it as well..havent figured out why or how to fix it as long as I keep my thumb on the pad I can compensate for it so its no ususable. The new placement of the L2 and R2 buttons are bit uncomfortable but no big deal. The only real problem I have that really causes problems is random loss of signal from the controller it takes and hour or two for it to happen but seems to happen any time I have a long gaming session.

Overall I like the 360 controller better, it feels more durable, has been reliable so far and is more comfortable in its button placement. Like I said though its a matter of opinion.

By the by, I don't base my opinions on what I've read I actually game round my cousins who also has PS3 and 360. I see no evidence of superior graphics on PS3. He brought a PS3 bundle with RFOM, Motorstorm and Pro Evo (you gotta be kidding me that that was better than 360 version). Nothing lit his fire, so he sold all the games, he did buy DiRT which he quite likes but I still play him virtually every night on COD4 360 at the moment. Guess all those AAA PS3 titles are fighting hard to get his attention right now.
When I asked him if it was time to buy a PS3 (I swear on my kids life this is true) he replied, nope. There was fuk all to warrant the purchase right now. kind of confirming what we all know.

Overall I like the 360 controller better, it feels more durable, has been reliable so far and is more comfortable in its button placement. Like I said though its a matter of opinion.

I don't like either (I didn't like the DS2 either). of the last couple of generations the PS1 has had a better pad than the gcn/ps2/xbx/360/ps3. The dual shock is essentially the same as the DS2, but the extra weight of the original ds feels "better" to me. The saturn pad is still the best ever though.. =]

Ok I admit defeat on that part but still you have no proof whatsoever that PS3's graphics are better then 360's and you still haven't given me proof that any PS3 game is above 9/10 or 10/10 that aren't multiplatforms. also if ya could name me 10 good games out on PS3 so you could Persuade and Convince me to buy it. Until then seeing as there are no worth while games on it, I wont be buying one anytime soon.:D

why 3 360's, I am guessing you need a backup just in case one fails? If mine fails ill just send it in and if i get an older version than the one i have, well there will be hell to pay.

I have 2 360's, mine which is a launch premium and one for the kids that I bought broken and fixed up. That game collection is insane though, I thought my 360 collection was out of hand (57 games so far) but thats just crazy.

thats the thing - over 120 games there, and there aren't 120 games worth playing on the xbox (or the ps3, or the wii).

Would have been money far better spent getting a 360, a wii, and a ps3 and picking the best from each console. Same amount of games overall but the games would be the best of the best (rather than the 70 or so average games there).

Certainly what I would do. I'd rather play a good game no matter the system than a poor game just because it's on a certain system.
