Last weekend, highway bandits near the cirty of Industry hijacked a truck which was carrying over 1,000 copies of Rock Band (worth over $170,000). The hijackers held the driver at gunpoint while they unloaded the cargo. EA has issued a response on the matter by saying they are glad no one got hurt and they hope the thieves end up forming a rock band in jail.

One of this year's hottest video games got hotter last weekend, when highway bandits near the City of Industry hijacked a truck carrying more than 1,000 copies of "Rock Band" and the electronic musical instruments that accompany it, authorities said Wednesday.

The robbers kidnapped the truck driver and held him at gunpoint while they unloaded the cargo. In addition to the game disc, "Rock Band" features a drum set, a guitar and a microphone so players can pretend to be performers.

"We're glad no one got hurt," said Bryce Baer, a spokesman for Electronic Arts Inc., the game's Redwood City, Calif.-based publisher. "We hope these guys end up forming a rock band in jail."

The Xbox 360 version of "Rock Band" that was stolen retails for $169, making the score worth more than $170,000.

Why would anyone buy $170 on fake instruments?

Well that would sure be fun playing the game with game controllers rather than the instruments. There is a point when you are actually to cheap for your own good.

Why would anyone buy $170 on fake instruments?

Because the game is a riot, especially at parties. I bought it the Tuesday before Thanksgiving and that's all my cousins and I did for the entire holiday weekend, I imagine it will be that way again over Christmas. But I admit I paid about $140 for it because of Best Buy reward zone, and then I turned around and sold the included guitar on eBay for another $70 because I already have 2 Les Paul guitars from Guitar Hero, so $70 bucks after all that for a Mic, Drums, and the game is a steal.

I can't imagine how over 1,000 of those big boxes can fit on one truck, that's crazy

I wonder if the article just assumes that they were all the $169.99 kit? THe game is sold for $69.99 without the accessories.

Even so, it doesn't say that they stole all 1,000 units. In fact, they couldn't possibly have done so without a tractor trailer or their own of a fleet of accomplices; both unlikely. It says that it was carrying 1,000 before it was hijacked by theives. They did not steal the truck or the trailer. They got a certain amount which was not specified (doubtfully, but possibly up to all 1,000 units).

Why would anyone try to speak English when they can't?

Unfortunately, this was the truck that was headed to Canada.
