View Full Version : Student arreseted over school shooting threats on Live
A college student has reportedly been arrested for making violent threats over the Xbox Live network while playing Activision's shooter Call of Duty 4. More particularly, the student threatened he was going to shoot up his school as he played the game.
Although the charges against 19-year-old Allieu Shaw of Gaithersburg are on file, there was no record this morning that Shaw had been served the summons. A trial date is set after the defendant is served a summons.
Shaw faces a maximum penalty of one year jail time and/or a fine of up to $5,000.
He was taken in handcuffs from FSU’s Annapolis Hall, Room 148, at about 2 p.m. Tuesday after the C3I Unit learned of his location.
The university has placed Shaw on interim suspension pending an administrative hearing to be conducted by FSU.
According to court records, Shaw was playing the game “Call for Duty 4” in the XBOX Live gaming system with players around the country when he allegedly stated the threat of “shooting up the school.” The statement reportedly contained a description from Shaw concerning “how he was going to do it.”

Next in the USA:
- Xbox Live Forbidden by LAW, also ALL other Online ways of playing against each other!
- Any shooter is forbidden, only Dora and Diego games are allowed to be played on next-gen's
- Pac-Man will be forbidden cause he eats pils and eats ghosts (it could lead to ppl thinking eating pils is the right thing to do)
- Tetris is forbidden cause it's a racist game, it doesn't allow blocks to be placed anywhere or you end up "Game Over" and the T couls be implemented as a male s*x**l organ
This wil lead to puzzle, crossword, Dora and Diego games only allowed by law under a strict age label, depending on the content of the words/pictures! as long as it contain no violent pictures/words are nudity or s*x**l words/pictures
Is this the end of gaming?
I know i just type some rubbish, but i couldn't find any other words to reply on this :D

Indeed. Reportedly, allegedly, etc, are "useful" words for reporters to make claims that they can't confirm, like:
"A college student has been arrested after allegedly making violent threats over the Xbox Live network..."
It's what he's accused of, and it's unconfirmed. The point that he has been arrested is (hopefully) fact. If it really can't be confirmed that any bit of the incident, including the arrest, took place... it probably doesn't belong in writing at all.

There is a difference between free speech and making threats, in today's society if anyone in authority was notified of this, did nothing and something happened people would be up in arms about it....if they investigate it a different segment of the public is up in arms about it...they are damned if they do and damned if they don't but its easier to be damned for possibly preventing a catastrophe than to be damned for doing nothing to stop it.

If someone said they were gonna shoot up the class at my University, I'd definately report it. Apparently, caring for your fellow human being is not a top priority in this forum. If it was a joke, how am I suppose to know?? It seems like every week, someone is going nuts and shooting 5+ people. How am I suppose to know that they are just joking?? I am not going to take that chance...and I am not going to shrug it off and skip school that day. What about people's lives? Is it worth the gamble to risk people's lives just because you "think" it was a joke. s#IT,, I never "thought" the Red Sox were ever going to win the series!! It's not worth it to 2nd guess something like this, especially when people's lives may be at stake.

Good thing this happened on XBL, crisis averted thanks to the XBL community.
Now the last few shootings you heard about?
Those guys were probably bragging on PSN about their future deeds and due to the scumbag, "me" userbase of PSN; they went through with it.:mad::(

I think this shows the problem with trash talk on Live in general. It's gotten way out of hand. I've completely stopped using the in game voice chat because of just that kind of mentality. There is something wrong with a 19 year old college student that would do something like that. Probably a good thing the he's being checked out. At least maybe he'll think about what he is saying in public from now on.

HAHAHAHA
If he's going to do it while playing...... how??? How would you hold the gun and the controller? Is he going to call everyone into his room and shoot them all there? Or will he wait till COD4 is on PSP then go do it?
This is the stupidest thing I've heard. Arresting for what someone said. Isnt America a big thing for freedom of speech? So he can say whatever he wants but he will get arrested for it?
Look at the guy who shot up the church there the other day, he was banned from playing games and listening to music. Now how can games and music be bad and cause violence if he never played or heard?
What about 30 years ago when packman came out. Did people play and coz they didnt get the cherry go and kill everyone? HAHAHAHA
(Oh, Donkey Kong just hit me with the barrel and I forgot to jump, lets go shoot everyone) :P
Games dont kill. Stupid people kill.

From the story (which, before making such stupid assumptions in future, it may be worth taking the time to read from the links provided):
"Another player, Kaipo Damurand of Oregon, contacted the Frostburg Police Department to report Shaw’s alleged threat."

i agree, although its a freedom of speech, its not easy to ignore it. there is a recent shooting at a mall to and like most of the shooters, they commited suicide. i remember another story in california where someone said he'll do another columbine in a school forum and the kid caught was reportly a trouble lonely teen. it also happened another school where there was graffiti in a bathroom wall with dead bodies and a date of possibly a shooting. therefore, its really stupid right now to say that sort of thing even if its not serious. its seem like some people are actually looking up to these shooters, which in my opinion is creepy.

Those are the 4 ads. Why is VirginiaTech Shooting and Hunting Gear & Accessories next to each other?
To me it looks like someone wants people to kill. Thats like in America they have liquer stores next to gun shops. Yea, lets get drunk and buy guns then what? 1 + 1 = dead people.
No wonder there are so many killings in the USA. In Aus, here there is nothing like that. the nearest gunshop is no where near a liquer shop. And you need licences to buy guns and its really strict.

But sometimes, a joke is meant to be just that. A joke.
People can't keep living in fear forever, we will all die one day. It's inevitable.
I just think about different situations for example; what if the person said "I'm coming into your house and gonna push your brains down to your socks" in COD4? It all depends on how one takes it.
