David Richards of Smarthouse indicates that Microsoft is going to need a whole lot more than a new salesman if it is to stay competive in the gaming console industry. Last week Microsoft recruited former Nestle food executive Sean Davies as the new Entertainment Devices sales manager but Richards indicates MS need to do a whole lot more than this to fix the Xbox 360's problems.
Then a few hours later they issued a trade press release on the appointment of a new "Food" salesman to consumer media but not to trade media covering the retail rounds.
What Microsoft Australia is attempting to do is improve marketing and brand consistency which is suffering at the hands of Sony and Nintendo. In fact at a consumer level Microsoft has done a lousy job in Australia with retailers denied access to a lot of products that are available overseas such as the Zune MP3 player. Access to a music download site similar to the iTunes site. They are also struggling with Vista sales and have failed to deliver a full Media Centre expeience due to the lack of a Microsoft approved electronic program guide.
This year Xbox 360 stuff up's by Microsoft has already cost the Company over $1.3 billion dollars and despite repeated attempts by SmartHouse to get Microsoft to comment about local problems with the Xbox 360 they have refused despite 4Square Media getting over 100 complaints about the treatment of consumers at the hands of Microsoft support.
