I have a PS2 v9 model 50001 with a DMS4 Pro chip and ToxicOS 0.41 installed. The CD/DVD player stopped working today and makes a clicking noise the says "unable to read disc". Anyway, I would like to put in a HDD and put the images of my games on it. So from what I gather all I need to do is purchase a network adapter and a compatible HDD and snap it in. My question is how do I get the images onto the HDD? Hopefully you do not have to load them with a working CD/DVD drive on the PS2 unit?
Any help or input would be greatly appreciated.

it'snot a question getting the images onto the hdd or evem formatting it that's the issue. in order to even play them, you must run HDLOADER.ELF from, guess what, your CD/DVD drive. then hdloader pulls your game image from the hdd. i had the same problem with mine. the fix for me was about a month and a half in a cabinet. then it worked better than before. of course by then i had a slim. but now i have a mod console :D. try giving it a break for a few weeks then see how it does. hopefully it will work so you can run HDLOADER.ELF. this will save most of the rest of your laser life and you'll get faster load times. good luck!

From what I have read I can use WinHIIP to format and move my game images from my PC right onto the drive then put the drive back into my PS2 and load the games up with ToxicOS? Wouldn't that work out?

Does anyone else have any extra input on this subject?

you do not need the CD/DVD player at all. Winhiip does it all! I gpt a seagate 320 GB drive and hooked it directly to my PC and moved the images over, put it in my platstation, used ToxicOS to boot and away I went.
