View Full Version : Memento makes the PS2 do 0-60 quicker - boots backups quicker than originals!
Memento's third party firmware for use with the Memor 32 memory card indicates that it can boot a back up copy of the same PS2 game quicker by quite some seconds. The following video compares the boot speed of an original GT 3 and a back up DVD copy of the same game using the Memento firmware on the Memor 32 memory card on an un-modded PS2 (16 seconds compared to just 11). LOL do they compare GT3(dvd media) to GT3 backup(cd media)?
Of course the cd will boot faster. Are they completely stupid?
They didnt prove anything thats it isnt known at the moment with or without the use of memor32.

This is just stupid.
Who cares about a 5 second 'wait'?!
Getting the disk, putting it in and pressing the power button takes more time than that :D

It's a DVD, the description also indicates it is a DVD backup and not CD media.
Of course the memor will boot faster, the modchip skips the dvd authentication for the game and directly starts the backup. The 5 second wait on the normal disc is used to authorise the game and let it start up, the modchip just skips it. :o
With the original DVD they started the timer before the "twirly space" intro starts, with the memento they started the timer 3-4 seconds later, when the Sony logo appears.

I would definitly buy this as my moded PS2 broke but $75 in US!? That is just way too much to be paying for something like this.... Damn I wish there were other memory cards like this to compete and make the price cheaper.

if you still have to "patch" the game to work on the memor32, I still say the memor32 is a waste of time, and not worth it (especially for $70+)

I totally agree with your opinion. If there's no need to patch the game, then I would go for it.

Like someone here said before, they skipped the "Sony Computer Entertainment" logo (which is the very first thing you should see when booting a PS2.
What cheap asses... Show me a mod that loads in-game loading faster than an original without mod chip and I'm impressed.

I agree with it being a waste of money ($30-40 would have been more fair) but I don't agree with the patch being a problem. The games are still swap magic/modchip compatible after the patch and the patch doesn't take that long so I don't see the big problem

maybe dumping and re-burning over 200+ backups on new dvd writables might put some people off

Not everyone has 200+ backups but what do I know?
I have a mod-chip and about 20 backups (the rest on HD until I need them).

You should reburn your backups at some point anyway, because writable media doesn't last forever, and your disc may get damaged in use. Plus if you have other 200+ backups, you are almost certainly a pirate anyway.

I bought this modchip from one of MAXCONSOLEs partners (everyone knows who it is). So Im waiting for it.
Why? Well its hell alot cheaper in Germany then a freaking modchip or memor32 in sweden.
Also this person Im gonna give it to, I think the personer rather use a little plastic thingy than a big ass modchip.
So Im pleased to see it working ^^

I'm not quite sure GT3 would even fit on a CD... I have the original with no back up so I really do not know :)
