To save myself some time in discovering this on my own, I thought some of you out there might have already been down this road. I would like to know what the ideal settings for movies are:
Live Action Movie (TV Format source)
Live Action Movie (Widescreen/letterbox = Full Screen for PSP)
Anime (TV Format source)
Anime (Widescreen/Letterbox source)
Filesize doesn't matter, I want the best quality video + sound.
Any help would be appreciated.

Okay do you have the problem "transcode cancelled"? Well thats why I left psp video 9 and whent to psp movie make. Its just as easy but pratically every movie is acceptibal. See they record the clip or movie then make it mp4.
Best thing its free too!

tootall, if your talking about pqdvd psp movie maker, it's NOT free. Sure, there is a demo but for full function, you have to register it...i.e. BUY it. ;) I will say it's well worth the money though :D

320x240, 368x208, and 400x192 are all good settings. Then again, i suggest u make a 30sec sample clip for urself to judge and spot any difference in quality. Personally, i cant see the difference myself.
I like 368x208 most because it has the same screen ratio as PSP's natural resolution of 480x272. That way, u can preview ur encoding w/o distortion on ur PC. (I mean, u can go ahead and encode using 400x192 but the movie looks"flat" on PC but okay on PSP full screen.)
Sound quality? U dont have much choice. If u encode with AVC mode (for firmware 2.0 only) then u can only select 48khz. For other modes, only 24khz is supported.
Have fun with pspvideo9! :)

just curious... why is it every time i do a video (usually from a Xvid DVD Rip)... the sound is so low once i get it on the PSP... as in i can't hear it unless everything around me is perfectly quiet.
any tips?

I know this may seem a bit off-topic, but that's why I love pqdvd psp movie converter. It can increase the volume as well as the brightness. And no, I don't work for the company ;)
