The folks at Team Xtender have given us a heads up on their debut and quite simply amazing project for the PSP - the PSP to TV accessory. Not only will this upcoming product allow you to play your PSP games directly on the big screen (TV), but rather more remarkably it will allow you utilize the superior method of a PS2 controller! It also supports functions such as auto fire and best of all this is suitable for all gamers as it requires absolutely NO soldering. They have completed the schematics as well as the mould renders for production, of which they have given us to share with you all.

OMG this device is incredible! ultra respekts to TeamX on this bombshell! love the integration of everything down to a PS2 controller port..and even how its angled for consideration of changing UMDs!! this definitely brings a whole new level to PSP gaming...wonderful TeamX, simply wonderful :D

p.s. also looking forward to the Media Xchanger (if you will ;)) cuz t45hose 2GB'ers are startin to come out!

edit: not that i take back anything i said above, but after closer consideration i was wondering about 2 things..a) how does it actually *connect* to the PSP? it looks like the USB port on top has an opening so its not used (not that i even think its technically possible to put video thru USB) and b) why not an S-Video connector at the least? i do like the 16:9 / 4:3 switcher tho..still lookin forward to more news on it!

not to be a **** or anything....480x272 on a 16:9 big screen? (no not a 20" screen, a BIG screen) composite video out? eh, whatever.....i'd rather see groups hustle to get a mass storage expansion rolling out...and not just a memory stick converter

YES! This is simply awesome. What a great development that was completely unexpected by me at least. Thought I would have to wait for the PS3 to come out before a TV solution would come along for the PSP.

Outstanding work Team Xtender! Hurry up now and get it in production! I'll be one of the first to pre-order! :)

at first I thought it worked by doing a video
grab of the front screen, like with a cam...
but on second look it appears to be done
some other way, if it's real

sounds like the no soldering was a big clue prolly a whole replacement case
and a link through via the lcd ribbon for normal functions and the xtended one's mind the pun, only way i can see this being pulled off tbh without licencing ofcourse.

Nice bit of kit but why?

If your going to remove the 'portable' part of a psp'p' shouldnt you just buy a ps'2', which is built to work on TV's and is faster etc...

Best of both worlds at once..

Love the awfull scubagear look

Anyway, they have the guts down here to review PSP games on tv shows in full screen. And it looks kinda sad on a big screen, and it shows even more how slow most games run

The 'scubagear' look is not final, these are renders so the colours are by no means representative of the final product.

Anyway, it is a very cool and innovative product - I'm just wondering how well the PSP will make the transition to TV... :)

This must be a replacement case of some description rather than a plug-in accessory - the only way you'd be able to get a TV output and access to the controls would be via the PCBs inside the unit. So unless the design is really clever, you'd lose the portability aspect.

Still, looks very interesting...

And by the way, I've been working with PSP video that origintad from the devkit, working with an image expanded from 480x272 to 640x360, and it looks pretty damn good actually on a 4:3 TV. Of course, a proper anamorphic 16:9 output might look a lot poorer.

It's just a shame they are limiting the output to composite video, which frankly sucks balls - a component, RGB or even VGA output would be more preferable.

This is a great sounding mod - can't wait for it to be released to see how they intend to pull this off...

On a related note - Anyone know of any good tech/dev related PSP hacking sites where actual scene people post instead of speculations from end users?

I remember one forum had a great PSP section that covered a lot of tech issues like how to output to a TV etc.. but can't remeber the URL..

im about as tech as your going to get here, they wont be tapping straight to the lcd tbh but the decoder/contoller output to the lcd, il give them a little design advice tho ;) make a complete replacement back with a pcmi style port so your device would be an addon rather than the chunky device it look's like at the moment and then the user can decide to go portable or dock the device to use with the tv.

mind you with a close look they have extended the front facia so this looks like a detachable design if so well done lads :) and the voltage seems be either a to charge the psp or b to get power for the rumble in the dual shock
