View Full Version : The Memento/Memor32 compatibility thread

I thought it'd be a good idea to start a compatibility thread to help each other get a better idea of what is working and what is not:
For firmware 1.0a, Version 4 PS2
DDR Supernova (US, NTSC) - Working
DDR Max 2 (US, NTSC) - Working
Resident Evil 4 (US, NTSC) - Working
Dark Cloud (US, NTSC) - Working
Silent Hill 3 (EURO, PAL) - Working
Final Fantasy X-2 (US, NTSC) - Working
Gran Turismo 4: Prologue (JAP, NTSC) - Working
Guitar Hero (US, NTSC) - Working
Guitar Hero 2 (US, NTSC) - Working
Guitar Hero: Encore - Rock the '80s (US, NTSC) - Working
Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock (US, NTSC) - Working
Front Mission 4 (US, NTSC) - Working
If anyone happens to have a dual-layer burner (and Memor32 w/Memento), I'd like you to try something:
If you have a game that is dual-layer (God of War 2, Gran Turismo 4, etc), rip the game to ISO, apply the Toxic dual-layer patcher on the ISO, then patch the game with Memento and see what happens...I have a feeling that should let most dual-layer games work properly..
Can someone confirm it? You can download the Toxic patcher here. Thanks!
In another thread some guy said God of War on dual layer worked fine and didn't mention needing to use a Toxic patcher.

I've read in a spanish forum that this is a common isuue, sometime works turning on your ps2 without any dvd, start the browser, when the browser load insert the disk, when you see the disc icon start it from there, it should load in your ps2 language.
try it, i'm not sure if it works, if you can try both with firmware 1.1 or 0.9
thank you misthero.
The next problem I have is that I can't boot games from the browser. If I try my screen turns and stays black. (edit: only tried with v1.1)
If I reboot the system then I must enjoy the french language. I hated it 7 long years at school and that will not change I think. ^^
But it's good to know that it is not only my fault and problem. Maybe the Memento guys fix it in the next version.

to help memento team improving compatibility of their software you can send them a bug-report at memento@pop3.ru.
If yuo want to send a bug report you should follow this headlines: http://www.mementoteam.com/bug.html
there is no link anywhere to this page, they linked it to me by e-mail.
If we do it for every game we find not working maybe will be easier for them to fix in next firmware releases. And make this memor32 the best plug-play modchip :).

did the iso patching procedure change from 1.1 to 1.2a?
'cause the games that worked with 1.1 now wont with 1.2: it just sticks to the 'memento' screen all the time, starting both from the browser and resetting.

A newer firmware will be out in a few days so you could either go back to the 1.1 or wait for the newer one.
My games still work with the 1.2, but I have seen the logo hang, and I just reset it then.

so i got some games to load but on all three games i see a problem...
to start off
with a SCPH-39001 fat ps2
along with firmwares 1.2e and 1.1
DragonBall-Z-Budokai-3-CE
it skips the cut scenes in story mode, but the fighting and flyings all there
Odin_Sphere
it doesnt let me save but no problems until you try (doesnt let me choose a diffenent mem slot, i wonder if thats a problem with memor32, does anyone know if your ps2 can still read other mem cards + memor32 in first)
Need For Speed Pro Street
pauses....and for a really long unbareable time 4-5 min.
...now i have some questions just in case anyone made it this far
1.have you guys had this problem, the games dont let me choose a diffenent mem slot, i wonder if thats a problem with memor32, does anyone know if your ps2 can still read other mem cards + memor32 in first
2.does memor32 NEED to be in first slot to work? b/c iv tried it in the second slot and no go
3.iv cleaned my laser recently with a CD lens cleaner but could my ps2 laser be the problem? the only other game i can recall having problems was MARVEL VS CAPCOM 2 (im thinking maybe b/c its a CD rather than DVD) if so what solutions can i go about to fix this problem? an extreme as to physically replace the laser? maybe try a more efficient way and get HDLoader and HDD+network adapter (by the way is there a thread that explains how to put games on a HDD along with what folders to make ect. the whole 9 yards? so that i can just wait until MEMENTO makes a firmware with a built-in feature so i can skip the whole process of needing .ELFs, HDLoader and my maybe-dying Laser?
Seriously any help would be greatly appreciated, im sure some other people want to know as well.

sorry 2 more questions
1.do the patches for 1.1 and 1.2e make a difference? i patch with 1.1 it says its patched already if i use 1.2e's patch and vice versa.
2.you guys experiencing long loading screens on all games?
3.lastly what Brand DVD and Speed should i be burning? iv been using Memorex DVD-R and the lowest it can record is 6X, i heard -R is better for FAT PS2 is that true?
THaNKS AGAIN!

hhmm I updated to 1.2e.
Now none of my games work anymore ....
It freezes at the memento logo.
I had 1.1 on my card and then updated it.
Can that be the problem ?
Must i format the card first and then do a clean install of 1.2e ?
For now i formated the card and reinstalled 1.1....

You can mount the image with alcohol 120% then open Nero and rip it to an .nrg file (which is patchable). That's what I do, at least. There may be a program out there to convert the ISO format, but I haven't looked.
You could try Daemon Tools and CDRWin, too I suppose...

I have read that some people have and some havent been able to save to the second MC. I haven't tried, but I will give it a shot and post what happens later.
I am seeing a pattern with games that use a USB peripheral (ie Eyetoy, Guitar Hero, Singstars, Buzz) generally don't work, yet again some people have and some havent had them working - so far no rhyme or reason to what works and what doesnt, possibly what version PS2 you own is the deciding factor. I did read somewhere that the Memor32 requires all the ports free. My Eyetoy is always plugged in and I cannot play the Eyetoy games from backup discs, but it doesn't affect the Memor32 operation any other time.
Hopefully get to the bottom of it soon - or - someone can point me in the right direction :D.

Try using -R media. I have been told that it is more compatable. Don't know how much truth there is to it, but worth a shot.
Thanx for the tip Sully,
Will give it a try and let you know!;)

I haven't had that problem, from what i've seen the memor32 card is only really required at startup. After the game has booted you can switch it with another card. I've tried this with a couple of games and it hasn't let me down.

CD format isnt yet supported (ps1 & ps2 both).
Workaround: yeah its there but having to rebuild from cd to dvd is time consumin' and sometimes nearly impossible if the game is protected. Better wait untill a firmware with cd support arrives. ;)

ok so i have a:
PSTwo Slim (PAL)
SCPH-77003
And none of the firmwares are booting any of the games i've patched and tried with it except 1, and that is Star Ocean 3 (Undub version), which gets to the start menu but hangs when starting a game...
I also tried one that was confirmed working for other slim pal users like Odin Sphere, but to no avail, i've also tried some that were maybe working such as Final Fantasy X, and FFXII, also Persona 3, and Shining Force EXA, none of which boot atall, just black screen, i'm obviously hesitant about burning another 10 - 20 isos just to have a black screen again...
Yes i've tried all firmware versions, yes i am only using the memor32 plugged in and nothing else, and yes i patched all the games... so, so far a big waste of my time as nothing is playable let alone bootable...
I understand it is early days yet, and rather than send bitching emails i and we should all wish the memento team the best for future updates with better support and compatability, they have already proven they are quite fast so i await eagerly for something that works :)
On a side note, i also used the nifty DEV boot modes to launch Cogswap and SwapMagic from a usb drive, but these dont help unless you use a swap-card trick or something, nevermind :-/
EDIT: My first success - Shining Force EXA - WORKING.
EDIT 2: EXA goes ingame, but then hangs right at the start :(

I always use Taiyo Yuden DVD -R's burnt at slow speeds, usually x4, so the media is very good.
I've tried launching from cold boots, normal boots, and browser boots, but so far only thing fully working is Shining Force EXA, gonna try some more games, but a success rate of about 1 in 10 is pretty sucky so far :)

I am not doing any region patching, other than using the memnto disc patcher itself... i've been trying both ntsc-u and pal isos, the Shining Force EXA which is fully working is NTSC-U..
Thankyou for the suggestions never the less, it's appreciated, i'll just hang in there for a new firmware, they've been pretty fast so far :)

What will really suck, is if they update the disk patcher exe so that you have to re-patch once again all your games, hopefully they can increase compatability by updating the firmware only, i would assume this to be the case as the disc patcher probably only writes a check routine to see if the memor32 is plugged in and then passes patching/booting routines over to that using whichever memnto firmware is currently on it.
I hope the guys manage to get a v1.3 out before they go boozing for christmas :)

A bit off topic, a bit on topic, but what would you people that are more experienced in the matter at hand say that the future holds for the Memento/Memor32 combination? As I copy more and more games I am reaching the point where barely half of the collection is working which somewhat defeats the purpose of buying it in the first place. I am completely aware that we are in the initial stages of development and I am not criticizing or bashing anyone. They've done a great job thus far, but I am mostly wondering how long the expected wait time is before we have a near 100% compatible card available? I know that a guess would be pure speculation but since your guess is probably far better than mine, as I have zero experience with previous mod chips and booting solutions on the PS2, I can't help myself from asking this question so that I can at least get a general idea.

The best thing to do is to probably report what works and what doesnt to the Memento Team, they can't fix it if they don't know what's wrong. Just dont send an email saying XXXX doesnt work. Give them FULL details.
The link for repoting bugs is:-
http://www.mementoteam.com/bug.html
Follow the list of what they ask.
The team seem to be working at it fairly full on, so it wont be too long (I hope) before they make it almost 100% fully compatable. Have a look at the release dates of the firmware, approx two weeks between releases, cant ask for much better than that.
I have only got into this because I have a 7 and 9 year old, and I am sick of them scratching the crap out of the discs... as kids do with their carelessness... and I didnt like the idea of soldering a chip into the console, too many risks. I did try a clip on chip at one stage, what a waste of money and effort that was.
Be Patient :D and help the Memento Team by reporting bugs.

I converted 18 wheeler CD to DVD format using scanlite 3.7 . I first extracted the bin file to a folder, then use scanlite, select DVD, then select all files and it will patch what needs to be patched. Then use Nero, select UDF/ISO DVD format and burn to image file, selecting ISO as the save file.
Then I just burned it using imgburn and it booted fine with firmware 1.2e

No it does not bypass this, you have to patch it using a Pal/NTSC converter or use AdR patcher 0.5. Just google it. Or go to sksapps.com for the patcher.

Memento should bypass any region protection, so the only real troubles is usually id your TV supports NTSC and PAL both. If you aint got a "import" ready TV you can try patching the iso first with a patcher like this one:
http://www.geocities.com/jayteemaster2003/
Note: ANY kind of patching of a game iso will change the Toc of the disc and may be picked up by a ps2 game protection.
They've done a great job thus far, but I am mostly wondering how long the expected wait time is before we have a near 100% compatible card available?
Guess:
Worst case: 70%-ish compatability .. like all the games that aint protected for real .. basicly the same as when HDloader/Hdadvance first showed up. (2 month ?)
Better: 90% compatability .. should be able to reach this as few new games is released and no one really protects their games anymore. (guess: 6 month?)
Best case: 95-98% : again most games aint protected anymore, so to get the last odd couple of games to boot u need to inplement those 50+ ish single game fixes thats floating the net too (guess: in a year ?).
Note: im only guessing on Memento non-swapping compatability .. as you can already today just boot up Swapmagic 3.8 Elf and swap in games with 98-99% compatability.

Thanks a lot for the reply, made a lot of things clearer :)
I'm attempting to use Swapmagic, but can't seem to get it working. I am booting it from an USB memory stick and it loads fine, but it tells me that the disc inserted is not a valid PS2 disc (the backup). If I load a regular PS2 game, and press any of the load buttons, I expect to see a "swap" screen, but it simply loads the game instead from the original disc. Any ideas? I am guessing you can't swap the disc by simply ejecting and reloading the backup... Do you still need the fliptop cover or similar?

I am guessing you can't swap the disc by simply ejecting and reloading the backup... Do you still need the fliptop cover or similar?
Yes, thats the let down of swapmagic .. you need to "SWAP" in the backup aka replacing a real disc inside the console with the backup without the console noticing (so you cannot press eject or open the slimline-lid normally.
Instead you need to either:
Bulky: slidekey/card or fliptop or similar device.
Slim: Magickeys/ghostkey or similar.
Note: its not like you HAVE to buy anything to be able to swap, most people make their own swap tools. Cutting yourself a slidekey from a old credit card, cd case or similar take only a few minutes and it dosnt have to look anything as fansy as this:
http://pchan.250free.com/cog-knife.jpeg
Bulky: To actually be able to stick the slidekey into the console you will have to remove the small front part of the lid and as this is usually quite fraguile you should tell yourself that it will most likely break off (nothing a little glue cant fix tho). To have a closer look at the front panel do this: turn on your ps2 and eject. Then turn off the power using the key on the Back. Tray stays open and you can have a good look at the front cover and the little hooks that keeps it in place, there may also be a single screw.
Then the official guide says:
http://www.swapmagic3.com/slide-tool/Instructions.htm
And on the Slimline you can make your own keys too (note: this is the first version slimline .. layout of the switches has moved on different versions):
http://pchan.250free.com/straw1.JPG
http://pchan.250free.com/straw2.JPG
http://pchan.250free.com/straw3.JPG
In the end it will aways be best to install a fliptop on both consoles.
Bulky: Again if you are poor and Santa wont buy you a fliptop, then you can just do the "poor mans" fliptopping aka lazy and forget to install a fliptop and just manually swap.
First you will have to remove these screws (hidden below the tabs):
http://pchan.250free.com/fig002.jpg
Then go here:
http://www.swapmagic3.com/Flip_Top_Install.htm
When you open the console you need to be really carefull not to jank out the silver ribbon connecting the top cover to the console:
http://pchan.250free.com/fig0061.jpg
http://pchan.250free.com/fig0062.jpg
The ribbon is really loose on the console side, thats why the ribbon is taped down. You will have to loosen the tape to get to the tray tho. Should you accidentally jank out the ribbon anyways, dont panic. Its a plug and play cable so just can just plug it back in again (after removing a lot more screws and the buttom cover .. so try to awoid it please).
Once you have removed the inner drive trays 4 screws you can pop up the tray like so:
http://pchan.250free.com/CDassembly2.gif
I couldnt be bothered myself to assemble the whole thing back so i just keep the console open and tip the drive tray to swap in backups.
CAUTION: If you have children, dogs, turtles, reindeer, cats or similar critters in the house, better get a proper fliptop or keep the ps2 out of harms way. Dont want anyone to stick their little antlers in a open electric console, as its quite unhealty.
Slimline: i assume you can do a similar kind of trickery with the slim, but i have never tried it.
Here the official guide:
http://www.swapmagic3.com/Flip_Top_7000X_Install.htm
There is the official swap guide of cause:
http://www.swapmagic3.com/SwapMagicCoderManual.pdf
Too bad it dosnt really explain what you should always be doing:
Bulky:
1. Boot swapmagic (disc or elf)
2. Eject (tray opens).
3. insert the largest REAL ps2 game you have (disc must be same type as backup aka dvd for dvd and cd for cd).
4. Eject (tray closes and disc spins down .. screens says SWAP in backup)
5. SWAP in your backup (slidekey or fliptopping).
6. press X a couple of times to boot backup.
Slimline: Well if you got a fliptop on your slim that allows a real "eject" then you can do just like the bulky above.
If you are using key then you should also be able to remove one of the keys too, when you want to eject.
Some people cant do that for different reasons .. keys glued down or simply afraid of touching the keys (as it took you hours to get em just right). Then you are better off using either Cogswaploader.elf or CDloader.elf as these support ejecting..
Cogswaploader:
Once it has booted, insert your Real large ps2 game and press SQUARE this will update the TOC and you can insert you backup next.
Cdloader:
Once cdloader has booted press TRIANGLE to eject. Insert the real ps2 game and press TRIANGLE to "close lid" again. (if the disc hasnt stopped spinning press x). Then insert backup.
Combinations: Sometimes you may need to do the refresh with cogswaploader/cdloader AND run swapmagic too. Better refresh with cog/cdloader first and then swap in a backup iso with swapmagic on it (and finally the backup game).
Why all this refreshing? The ps2 has a TOC (aka disc size) protection .. and as a real swapmagic dvd disc is only 4.35Gb large .. the games larger than that wont run. So to get those last 200 ish games that are in the 4.35 til 4.37GB in size to run .. you need to refresh the ps2 with a real 4.37GB game so that the backup "fit".
If you are using a Elf instead of a real swapmagic disc then you refresh to beat both the "real disc" and "toc" protections of cause.
Nice large 4.37GB discs are: Devil May Cry 1 & 2, Mercenaries, Chaos Legion.

I have only patched RTL Winter Sports 2008 and it worked fine for me, so can't say for all games. I had the rolling screen otherwise and it had no 50/60 hertz selector. That is why I patched it.

that list isn't complete, I read the thread and saw that guitar hero 3 was working but there was no mention of the out of sync sound issue, so I'll be updating my post with a note about this particular issue but at the same time I'm wondering if the problem is generalized or if its just a particular series of NTSC US PS2 that shows the problem
so I'm putting that together with the info available to me, if everyone was to post their console version, memento firmware version, the region of the game (NTSC US or JP, and I heard PAL AU was the same as PAL UK & EURO, if anyone has a link disambiguating the matter I'll read it) plus the name of the game and any issues experienced, the list would be much more complete

Before I start burning and testing games what are the chances that they will release a "new" patcher for their next release? It would be a real pain if we would need to repatch games.

I recently purchased a Memor32 and have installed the memento firmware. As I'm from Australia and have bought my ps2 slim locally I installed the Australian version 1.1 of memento, however I am unable to get anything working.
The reason why I chose to purchase the Memor32 was so that I could back up the games I own in order to prevent the original discs from being damaged (scratched and the like).
Unfortunately Memor32 so far for me has proven to be a complete waste of money.
Whilst having memor32 plugged-in, with the 1.1AU firmware installed the PS2:
1. Does not load any of my original PS2 games;
2. Does not load back-ups.
The games that I own that I wish to back up are the following:
God of War
Metal Gear Solid 2
Metal Gear Solid 3
Final Fantasy X
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories
Scarface
Tekken 4
All of these games are PAL and were bought locally. I am mindful of the fact that GTA: Liberty City Stories has been listed in this thread as a game that cannot be played yet with the memor32.
I have also patched the image files of the above games and nothing. All that I get is blank black screen and nothing else happens.
I would like to know what I'm doing wrong or overlooking.
I am new to backing-up PS2 games as this is the first time I have a 'modchip' for the console. I used Nero 8 to make an image file of the PS2 disc - should I be using something else? Do these games have protection that I need to by-pass by using another program?
Any help would be much appreciated. So far I am disappointed with my purchase as I feel I have bought an overpriced memory card that I don't even need.

1. Are you using -R media
2. Use HDL_Dump to rip your PS2 Discs
I used those straight off the bat and have had 90% success rate. Short of that I am at a loss.

As to 1. yes I am using DVD-R media.
I will try HD_Dump.
On that note, can you play your original games while the Memor32 is plugged in? Because I cannot - the playstation just freezes up.

Alright guys I need your help here. I haven't been able to boot a game yet. I can only get as far as the memento logo and the browser reads the media as DVD video. I am using dvd+r media, though. For the record, My ps2 doesn't sound like its struggling to read to disc or anything. Also, would a previous modchip I have currently in my Ps2 interfere with memento in any way? Its a really old modchip a guy installed years ago that only reads ps2 backups on CDRs (Of course all Original games still work fine).
Firstly, before I get dvd-r media, is Metal gear solid 2 NTSC-US confirmed working on a North American PS2 using the version 1.2 firmware? Should I try the 1.1 firmware too?
Extra info: Software I used to burn was called Image burn.
Edit: Works on version 1.1 firmware, but audio skips. I'm guessing I should blame this on the media?

Here it goes, my own compatibility reply. I use Sony DVD+R 16x (MID: Sony D21) media and I burn those with my laptop which has a HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T10N burner with Nero 8.
Furthermore, like you can read in my signature I have the MementoTeam 1.1 firmware loaded to my Memor32 which in fact has a sticker on it. I am using a silver Slimline PStwo (SCPH-75004).
And last but not least I also have an official Sony PS2 Memorycard sitting in Slot 2 all the time.
Working:
Crash Bandicoot - Tag Team Racing (PAL - SLES_534.39 ver1.01)
Dragonball Z: Budokai 2 (PAL - SLES_518.39 ver1.00) (Ripped myself with Nero 8)
Fight Night Round 3 (NTSC - SLUS_213.83 ver1.00)
God of War (PAL - SCES_531.33 ver1.00)
God of War II (Don't know, read by my PC as a DVD-movie but on my PS2 it is a Memento DISC)
Katamari Damacy (NTSC - SLUS_210.08 ver1.00)
King of Fighters XI (PAL - SLES_544.37 ver1.00)
Kingdom Hearts (NTSC - SLUS_203.70 ver1.00)
Kingdom Hearts II (PAL - SLES_541.14 ver1.00)
Midnight Club 3 - DUB Edition REMIX (PAL - SLES_529.42 ver1.04)
MLB Power Pro's (NTSC - SLUS_216.71 ver1.01) (Burned on a Philips DVD-R)
Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks (PAL - SLES_535.24 ver1.02)
MotoGP '07 (PAL - SLES_549.59 ver1.01)
Need For Speed: ProStreet (NTSC - SLUS_216.58 ver1.00)
Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords (NTSC - SLUS_216.92 ver1.00)
Soul Calibur III (PAL - SCES_533.12 ver1.00)
We Love Katamari (PAL - SLES_538.28 ver1.00)
All non-backup games boots!
Boots, but doesn't work:
Final Fantasy X (PAL - SCES_504.90 ver1.00) - "hdd mount err" (someone knows how to solve this ?
Not Working, doesn't boot:
Gran Turismo 4 (PAL - SCES_517.19 ve1.00)
Jak X (PAL - SCES_532.86 ver1.00)
SSX on Tour (PAL - SLES_535.52 ver1.00)
I can launch games from the browser (recognized as Memento DISC) and I can run them from a cold or warm (re)boot.
I would also like to request that everyone posts his/her SLUS/SCES/SLES codes found on the disc in the SYSTEM.CNF (SYSTEM.INF also I heard) file. (You can open them with notepad). This way we can make a much more comprohensive compatibility post.
PS: I really need to download less games, I only own a PS2 for 2 weeks now :P

On that note, can you play your original games while the Memor32 is plugged in? Because I cannot - the playstation just freezes up.
Whoa, sound like something has gone really bad there if you cant even run original games. Have you tried reflashing the firmware again ? or tried one of the other firmwares? Could be a different model ps2 in theory.
Also try removing ALL other hardware from your ps2 (yes .. EVERYTHING .. even both controllers .. maybe one of those are the culprit).
... I can only get as far as the memento logo and the browser reads the media as DVD video ... Also, would a previous modchip I have currently in my Ps2 interfere with memento in any way?
Memento patched isos should appear as "dvd-video" in the browser so that part is ok, still looks like you need to use the v1.1 for now.
About the modchip: dont think it matters, as its a internal level thing and shouldnt affect the software (i think).
Again try removing all other hardware, including other mc's, joypads and usb thingys. The hack does seem to dislike other hardware being connected at bootup.

My PS2 (SCPH-77004 CB, Memento Firmware: 1.1) plays original games if the Memor32 pluged in.

I've copied the save games from my original SONY 8 MB Memory Card to Memor32, before I didn't try.

I've made a unofficial compatibility chart from this topic. I used the information which I have found here. If you have some yellow cells (unknown cells), please provide me with the information if you can! That way we can make the chart even more complete.
Some user reports I haven't posted in this chart because there wasn't enough information (ie. no firmware version, no PS2 version, no region, etc.). Also please post your Sony code if you can! You can find it in the System.cnf file on your PS2 DVD.
http://www.alex3305.nl/memento.html
So there it is, if you have any additions you can mail or PM me, or just post it in this topic. Please post as much information as possible!

Quick update on my situation regarding original games:
I am now able to play original games but NOT upon turning on the console with the top closed.
In order to allow me to play original games w/ the memor32/firmware 1.1au installed I have to:
Turn on the PS2 w/o any game inside the console and wait for the PS2 electrons menu to appear. Then select 'browse', insert the original game and wait for the golden disc to appear. This is the only way that memento 1.1au will allow me to play original games.
I have also tried the other firmwares listed on the site, both the current 1.2e and the American 1.1 version and neither work - at all on the Australia slimline model.
I have also tried flashing the memor32 hoping that perhaps it was just a bad install to begin with but nothing has changed - same problems persisting.

Zone of Enders: The 2nd Runner
Shadow Hearts: Covenant
Steambot Chronicles

Well after some intense reading over at the afterdawn.com PS2 forums, it seems its best to go with either taiyo yuden or Verbatim dvd-r media (Speedlock can you confirm this?). Apparently using cheap media like memorex can reduce the life of your ps2 laser.
I decided to order a pack of 8x verbatim dvd-r media off futureshop's website and will post results when I recieve them (Media id of discs is also important it seems).
Previously I got Metal Gear Solid 2 working with firmware 1.1, but it lagged with audio. Apparently, i was using 4th grade (garbage media).
I'm still new to the PS2 scene so please let me know which is the best burning software and speed settings etc... I've been reading mixed reports on what speed to burn at. Some say half of the max burn speed of disc, some say as low as possible and some say use max. Common sense seems to dictate lower speeds would be best but, again, I don't know much about PS2 stuff.
I have a V5 PS2.

Does +R and -R make that much of a difference? I read its mostly newer slim ps2s that work better with +R media. Also, i've read more praise for the Taiyo Yuden discs as there is a small chance that the verbatim disc could be made by a bad manufactorer http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/240341 .

The list is updated again! Can someone put this in the topicstart btw?
Anyway. Thank you luciferangelus (46 new games (47 total) with almost full info!!) for your superb contribution! I would also like to thank kispistax, who provided full information for 29 games! kieron1066 has 24 reports in his library. One report less by mtkr with 23 reports. 14 different reports were filed by Speedlock. Teddymann also filed 14 reports. Same again with windrider42, 14 reports. Thirteen isn't an unlucky number, but it is Sully's number, with 13 reports. BobBorakovitz provided info on 12 games. TKilgore did the same thing as Bob, also 12 reports.
I self tested all my games at my girlfriends house and they all had the same results. My own contribution is now at 44 games.
That makes a total of 288 different reports! By in total 19 users. Not that much of a community yet, but hopefully it will come.
If you want to report the compatibility on a game, please do not private message me with the games but just post it in this forum. Also please don't edit your posts - and if you do clearly divide the list with OLD and NEW games, because I don't really like to check every game in a 20+ game list and then come to the conclusion that there is only 1 new report...
Also keep on posting Sony Codes for your games. 145 games of the 288 games do have them reported. Which is more than half of the games (by one :P) but we need to have more, of course.
As always the list is located on my own domain; http://www.alex3305.nl/memento.html. If you don't see the new list, try to F5 or CTRL+F5 it :)
Thanks for all your contribs and if you want to help out, you always can!!
PS. You are allowed to post the list on every site you want! Especially were people can help out. Also you can provide a link to those sites in my PM inbox.

Verbatim dvdrs are highly recommended for ps2 backups. Also, Maxwell (Made in Japan) dvd-r's are suppose to be good. From what i've read Taiyo Yuden discs are also just as good as Verbatim discs. Theses Dvdrs shouldn't put a lot of strain on your ps2 laser.

Nice one Alex...
I have spreadsheeted and updated my list, do you want me to email it to you to update yours. In total there is 23 with all the info except the game version - where do I find that?
Cheers
Sully
***EDIT***
Better yet, I have uploaded it to Google Docs so you all can check it out if need be.

PS. Any words on the next release?
Cheers

WOW! I am really impressed. Thanks Sully! Anyway, I think I am going to remove the game-verison column and put that comments column in. Although I don't want to make it too wide!
I will update the list later today or early tomorrow, I don't really know yet.
But thanks for the update and thanks for putting out which games are new and which not.

Hi. i know u said to use verbatim, maxwell or Taiyo Yuden dvd's but i was wondering if LG would be ok.
i have a pack of 16x lg dvd-r's they were cheap but i don't know if they would strain the ps2's lasers. verbatim and taiyo yuden are very expensive compared with what i bought. over double the price. if i have to i will buy them i would rather pay a bit more than kill my p2 laser.
also would TDK be a good brand or not?
thank you all very much. this is a great thread and alot of work has been put into it!

Just out of curiosity: what happens if you insert a backup in while inside the browser? (it should show as a dvd-movie) and try to play it?
Does +R and -R make that much of a difference? I read its mostly newer slim ps2s that work better with +R media. Also, i've read more praise for the Taiyo Yuden discs as there is a small chance that the verbatim disc could be made by a bad manufactorer http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/240341 .
Good question. +R is actually supposed to be the most compatible burned media i all matters (closest to manufactured DVD-ROM movies)in theory. But 2 things makes +R "bad" compared to -R .. the PRICE and the BOOKTYPE. -R has ALWAYS been cheaper and has ALWAYS automatiticly Booktyped the -R to DVD-ROM .. Where the +R has always been more expensive and you would have to remember to booktype yourself (either by using a Booktype program next to your burner or by getting a burner that automaticly does the booktyping).
So what does most of the backup users use today? the cheaper automatic booktyped -R of cause .. because why use the more expencive, more complex +R?
Speed: so at what speed should i burn a backup? Well, indeed pc burners are quite powerfull, so .. yes, your pc burner drive may be able to write a backup at 16x .. but does your pc and hdd have the speeds to keep up? Most burning software supports some kinda of "buffer underrun" so if you write to fast or the burn is interrupted .. you burn will resume (and not just crash). Sadly these "interruptions" leave a small mark or "hickup" on your burn. And having 117 "hickups" on a backup isnt exactly healthy .. so if your pc cant handle the speeds then maybe it would be better to stay in the "safe" zone and "just" burn at 4x, 6x or 8x ?
Dye/brand: Well Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim are nice brands indeed .. or are they .. are they really? As you may have concluded .. the brand dosnt mean a thing really as one brand may have different dyes .. and the dyes is what really matters. So what brand should i choose to get a good dye? Well, high priced media/brands are USUALLY the best ones. But you cant really tell before you actually put it in your pc/ps2 if it works.
The WAR: Business is war .. ever heard that? and on the burned media it actually mean WAR. In the never ending business war, one firm does its best to win .. and if winning means blacklisting the other brands/dyes .. at a low level .. like at your pc burners firmware .. then they WILL do it (and laugh evil when they do it). So when you all new Sony pc burner for some reason dont want to read the new Sony brand media you just bought (with non-sony CMC dye on them) .. then there may be a reason for this .. incompatability (cough!).
Console: This is what really matters .. not your pc setup .. but the actual console that the backup has to run on. Fact: Gamecubes and Wii has one thing in common .. both had compeatly un-aligned lasers straight from the factory .. what does this mean: you can never really know if you console is ready for backups untill you actually try the media on the very console. And with the ps2 you have to consider the 15 different models/laser settings before even thinking about media to burn onto.
And in this case, the ps2 actually have 2 settings (making it even more complex) .. one for DVD reading and one for CD reading. So you can actually have a ps2 that dosnt read any dvd media .. but all cd media will work (or the other way around).
HELP: I just read all you wrote and i dont understand a thing! Could you sum up your techy ranting somehow?
Ah ok, its quite simple actually: stick to what works for you ;) probably best to stick to dvd-r and once you find a local brand that works for you .. stick to it. Also burn the backups at a speed that your pc can handle .. so you get a nice steady burn.

Hey alex,
forgot to mention to take out my Simpsons Road Rage entry because I think the problem was a bad rip. I found out that the same rip wasnt working on HDLoader. I have to get the game back off a mate to redo it. Will update then.

This is why its good to check the the Media ID :) I used this as my guide http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm. For instance, i just bought verbatim's off futureshops website and they just so happen to be MCC 02RG20 (Works great btw), which are the good dye since its made by mitsubushi chemicles. One of the reasons taiyo yudens are more recommended to because they are all made by the same manufactuer (Unless they are fakes, of course).
Everything you've said makes sense, but I have yet to read about Taiyo Yudens not working on a specific ps2 model. Some people get unlucky and get Verbatims that have CMC mag as their media ID. The ones I ordered were 8x btw and I burned at a speed of 4x.
Also in response to Darth Yoda, I have no experience with the LG brand or what media ID it carries. So I can't vouch for its quality. I've learned a lot from reading topics off the afterdawn forums. You should check out some of the links I posted or perhaps do a google search.
I've read some horror stories on how a few people had their lasers die on them after a few months using cheap media. So I want to make sure I use the best media possible. In the end, my long research will pay off, as the media I was using before was complete crap and I didn't even realize it lol.

Can anyone tell me if Sonic mega collection plus works?
The rip is on my laptop and i'm getting audio sync issues and it sounds like the disc is constantly being read at the menu, like its struggling to read (these are quality discs). Now the thing is i'm not sure if I should blame it on Memento, the region patcher I used to convert from pal to ntsc, or if its an issue involving my burner on my laptop (never had trouble with these discs on my PC so far). So any info would be really useful.

I've used TDK DVD+R because I didn't get Verbatim. Some of my friends swear by Verbatim. They are in console modchip and sell busines for ages.
In Hungary (where I live) the best media is Verbatim probably.

don't know about the constant loading, but patching games to affect region DOES produce audio sync problems. don't know about pal->ntsc, but when I patched xenosaga from ntsc to pal, I noticed all visual stuff would go slower than the original, playing at 50hz, without skipping those 10 more. this obviously produced sync issues, with the audio going at his supposed speed.
eventually I bought myself a cable that would allow me to play 60hz on my pal tv... (memento should be region free... right?)

Thats interesting, but I did not notice any visual lag, though. Can anyone else verify the region patching as the cause for audio skipping etc...? I don't feel like wasting too many dvd-rs right now.

Suggest just buying a small amount of a local cheap brand first and see if the media works with your ps2. Because buying a expencive brand/dye dosnt automaticly make it work on your ps2. I bought some rather expencive nonames dvd-r with 1 class TTG02 on them and havnt been able to get a single console to use em. Bought some much cheaper Alpha dvd-r with a nice MCC dye and they happen to work .. even with my quite picky wii and xbox1. Also dont forget ps2 has INDIVIDUAL laser setting (on the back of the laser is 2 small screws to adjust laser strength .. one for cd and one for dvd reading). this means that you could in theory have a ps2 that wont read ANY burnable media (or only cd-r .. or only RW .. or only 4th class media .. or you name it).
So tey a couple of different brands and once you find one that works for you, stick to it.
Cant remember using TDK or LG im afraid. But as you may have guessed i wouldnt lay too much into a brand or dye, as it really depends on your console(s).
unless i missed something what do you set your booktype as for +r. dvd rom??
Booktype is roughly translated to = type of media.
People with OLD or VERY expencive dvd-players (the tv kind) may have noted that their players refuse because these players check the small area on the disc to see if it a proper DVD-ROM (and if it isnt then it will refuse to play it). I dont think this "protection" was initially to protect against piracy .. but was used to protect the actual player again people inserting "damaging" discs (like trying to play a data cd in a audio cd-player aint healty). TODAY tho im fairly sure its also there as a piracy protection of cause as ALL the major console have this "protection" against non-DVD-ROM's.
So why havnt you heard of this before? Well, cheap dvdplayers usually dont have this protection, and as dvd+r is more expencive than dvd-r .. and dvd-r automaticly is booktyped to DVD-ROM. Also there is a FEW dvd burners that automaticly Booktype.
Yes, yes, so how do i do this Booktype/bitsetting thingymagic?
Suggest trying IMGBURN first .. its usually build in for most burners. It goes like so:
http://www.k-probe.com/bitsetting-booktype-faq.php
Note: dvddecryper = old version of Imgburn .. get IMGBURN !
Here is how i did it in the old days with Nec and Nero:
http://etna.rpc1.org/nec/bitset.html
(if Nero dosnt recognise your drive as one that can be booktyped .. then you wont get a bitsetting option).
Also, make sure to check your burners homepage .. they may have a booktype/bitsetting program available there.
Hang on, you said that all the major consoles need booktype/bitsetting .. does this include the ps2? I .. ah .. cant remember (cough!). You see i have installed a automatic bitsetting firmware in my Pioneer drive so all the backupd ive been making the last couple of years are automaticly booktyped/bitset.
Maybe we can get someone else to test for us?
If you burn a succesfull booktyped backup it should read like so in Imgburn):
http://pchan.250free.com/Booktype02.JPG
If it dosnt booktype then it would read DVD+R under "last recorded".
Note that you can also see the Dye in Imgburn.
How did you get your "evil" auto-booktype firmware?
I got it here:
http://forum.rpc1.org/portal.php
OMG that is all extremely complicated .. any way i can skip all that? Stick to dvd-r media ;)
Thats interesting, but I did not notice any visual lag, though. Can anyone else verify the region patching as the cause for audio skipping etc...? I don't feel like wasting too many dvd-rs right now.
Audio lagging is quite common with Ntsc to pal patched games. Note that it is usually not the game or the patch that does the lagging .. but usually its the TV that dosnt support the faster 60mhz screen. Most games isnt affected much by this. By you may wanna stay clear of "dance" kinda games as they dont work well with lag.

thanks for your help. im still confused because some other ppl (no this forum 2) said that if u get rubbish dvd's and play them in ur ps2 (even if they work) you can kill your ps2 laser. i looked on this site: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
they have the media ID of dvd's saying which are good quality and which are not. the LG's I have are on there as the worst discs (not surprising because they were really cheap). i looked on some forums and some1 stated the MID of TDK. the TDK Gold were down as the worst and the normal TDK were good.
so ur saying that even the good quality discs may not work on ps2. i looked p TTG02 that u said didnt work and they are high quality.
so should i get a couple of good quality discss and try them in my ps2 or get some cheap ones and try them?
do cheap ones kill the laser?

it would really be pointless if it still needed hdadvance (disk), but it's not to rule out that is simply uses latest hdloader as on other 'normal' memory cards. possibly without the need of a psx game, hm?

to distract you from the wait, I'm gonna present an amusing and pointless fact: did you know that your ps2 thinks that the memento files within the memor32 are 82 megabyte big? no wonder my attempts to copy them to another memory card were in vain. yeah, you got me, I wanted to try and see if they would work on any memory card (they probably would). sadly I could only try the lame ps2 explorer copy function, and the action replay max utilities.
oh, by the way, another amunsing fact: memento works wonders to help me boot that action replay max disc, which would usually (9 out of 10 times) give me the red screen of "no ps2 disk". should we add that to the compatibility list? :p
and to get, slightly, back on topic, I wouldn't worry too much about them quitting, they've got still plenty of memor32 to se-errrrghm, I meant, they probably want to make sure there are no bugs this time.
I too am eagerly awaiting the new firmware for 1.2 did not work, and I need the possibility to boot the game from the explorer. you may ask yourself, why, when booting resetting the console works. I'll tell you: some multi-language games (many) have the annoying feature of booting automatically using the language set in your system files instead of allowing you to choose which one you prefer. but resentting with memento totally bypasses the system file, so the game boots with it's default language (usually english). that's fine by me, but a friend of mine whom I wanted to give one memor32 does not speak a word of english so... actually can anyone with a working 1.2 firmware and automatic multi-language game tell me if booting from the explorer does load the language set in the system?
which anyway brings me back on topic (sorry for the drift): I can't wait for the new firmware as well, and am ready to test like crazy!

those are interesting facts. 82mb i wonder why. hen why does it only take up 4-5 mb (or so iv been told) and lets u put other stuff on it? i always wondered why buy a memor32 when it should (theoretically) work in an ordinary ps2. i could then just borrow it off a friend or visa versa.
what does the action replay max disc do when it boots? i asked wat it was at my local eb and they said just 'cheats for games.' what else can it do?
im sorry i dont have my memor32 yet so i cant test any muli-language games. the one i have asks me what language at the start of the game and english is selected (at the top)

what does the action replay max disc do when it boots?
yes, it is mainly used to cheat I reckon. when it boots anyway. I dunno if it's my disc, or my ps2 model, but most times it just won't boot telling me it's not a legit ps2 disc. it comes with some memory card management tools, like copying, deleting, compressing, and formatting (very useful since it's the only way to format a corrupted memory). I bought the version bundled with a pen drive mainly to be able to transfer the indipendence exploit and hdloader on one of my cards.
as for memento... I'm just the end user and have absolutely no clue on how these things work, but I wonder how much of a differece there really is in how memor and regular cards interface with the ps2.
but no matter, bought it, enjoying it. :o

Hi,
I have burnt about 10 discs so far all
first 2 didnt work at all because of dvd+r media, switched to dvd-r (tesco ume100) and no problems since.
every game I've tested works fine with the exception of the singstar stuff.
the only 2 I tested which don't appear to be on the list is
Sega Superstars Eye toy, NTSC, - fully working
Boogie, PAL, Fully Working
all tested on UK slim model,DVD-R, 4* burn speed, Tescos brand (UME-100) . Firmware 1.2a and all only tested from boot not browser.
on a further note I have tested most of the 'buzz' stuff and noticed that they don't boot if I have the wireless guitar dongle plugged in, not sure if it did this with the originals.
I hope this help the list a bit.

I, too, found out recently that you can take the memory card out after it boots from it.
I wanted to play Street Fighter EX3 (A CD based game) on HD Advance but it kept locking up when it was looking for a save file, so I removed the memory card once I was in HD Advance's menu and replaced it with my old memory card and it worked perfectly :)
I was going to make a post about it in case others may have a use for it, but I'll just do it here.

ok, guys i tried to get some vebatium disks at my local staples today they don't carry that brand but i picked up a 100 sony DVD +R's (i use them or memorex for dvd backups anyway) for $22.00 to good to pass up they were on sale! So i had a look at http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm and it said they were first class dvds, anyone have any results on the sony +r yet??? I'm still waiting for my card to come in i'd like to know if they would work (memorex was in the second class). I will post my results when i get my memor32 card in...

Well I copied all the files from the memor32 with uLaunch 4.12, but when the game should load, it just says "play halted due to malfunction"
That is probably cause when the memor32 card is used the PS2 browser seems to think its a DVD Movie.
So even if the PS2 thinks the memento files are 81,000KB, they still can be copied to another mc, but they won't work without their hardware.
Also yes I learned that last month about loading files or saving from another mc by pulling out the memor32 once the game or hdd is loaded. I didn't want to have all my saves on the memor32.

I have used Sony DVD-R quite a lot with no problems whatsoever.
With the Sony+R, just make sure to have your Booktype set to DVD-ROM and you should have no problems.

awww, didn't think about that. anyway, the games are patched to behave like dvd video, not the memory card, which I stilll wonder if it's so different (apart from usb compart of course). I don't even know if those three visible files are all there is to it.
guys, actually, the first thing I tried was to remove the memor32 once booted, since most games interact only with slot1 (what gives?!). having three other mc's didn't want them to be ruled out.
now if someone were to tell us that some games that freeze, just won't removing the memor once booted, that would be rich! :D

DDR Max 2 (US, NTSC) - Working
Resident Evil 4 (US, NTSC) - Working
Dark Cloud (US, NTSC) - Working
Silent Hill 3 (EURO, PAL) - Working
Final Fantasy X-2 (US, NTSC) - Working
Gran Turismo 4: Prologue (JAP, NTSC) - Working

Thanks!
I tried burning God of War 2 (Dual Layer, used the Toxic patcher aswell) for my PAL PS2 Slimline 79002 with a DVD+R DL 2.4X Imation disc (btw, is this a good quality disc?). It boots up fine and you can play, however I can't seem to save my progress or load any games from the original disc. It accesses the memory card and identifies the saved games, but when I try loading them, it goes "load complete", and then the screen says "loading...." for like ever (i waited for 10 mins). I'm using the Memento 1.1 Au version. Did I screw up the burning or is it somethin else?
Also Ricky Ponting (Brian Lara) International Cricket 2007 (SLES-54231/ANZ) works for me, using TDK DVD-R 16X.

I hope this hasnt been asked before, i looked but i may have overlooked it.
I'm trying to backup God of War and yet I can't seem to get it to work on my memento/memor32.
Everyone says its doable and that on the compatibility list that it is a single layer game and yet when i image it with DVDDecrypter, it's around 7.5 GB. So naturally i patch it and burn it to a dual layer, place it in my PS2 and nothing boots.
I'm using memento firmware v1.1, SCPH-79002 PS2 and verbatim DL DVD.
I've also tried other programs, like magicISO and that seems to make a DVD of 3.6GB (probably only taking one layer), coz when i patch and burn that, it seems to freeze at random points in the game.
Can someone tell me... is this game dual layer or single?
Either way, what have other people done to successfully use this game? Toxic patcher?

The game is dual layer in its non ripped form. As I did not have any DL-DVDR's at the time, I downloaded a DVD5 rip of the game (illegal if you do not own a copy of the game already) and burned it and it plays fine. The Memor32 doesn't have 100% compatibility with dual layer discs yet, so this could be what is causing the problem.
- Added DVD-DL suport for some games (like Champions of Norahh, Midnight Club 3 Dub Edition Remix). This is still to be considered a beta feature and will be fixed completely in the next firmware release.

Ive heard the cable is the same as the one you use for a psp, i know its the same one you use for a kodak easyshare c310 camera as i have one of those already.
I dont think memento is going to stop releasing their fw i just think with it being xmas/new year/holidays and all that probably just taking a bit longer than usual, you could try emailing ozmods he seems to be in pretty close contact with them (memento) and see what you get back and post it here.
Not a 100% sure of the difference betweem dvd+r and dvd-r think it depends on what version ps2 you have, the games i have backed up are on dvd+r and i have the lastest version of the ps2, so all you can really do is try both of them and see what works best.

Games I've tried are;

Dynasty Warriors 5 Empires (NTSC)
Romance of the Three Kingdoms X (NTSC)
Using Memento Firmware 1.1 (AUS) and I have a SCPH-300052 (I think that's it, memorised it).
Tried the browser method (shows up as DVD Video and gives me regional error bla bla), and the boot method (games just don't bother loading).

Check the back label of your PS2 like in this pic.

Not sure why you are using the Memento Firmware 1.1 (AUS) if your PS2 is not Australian, unless it is, then thats fine. But check your version, cause the number you said doesnt sound right.
For most of you wanting to know more about the media to use read #2 of this excellent PS2 Faq. Most anything you want or need to know is in this faq.

It's a v4, and I know it's an aus one because of the xxx02.
From what I've read from the readme, it says that it's compatible from v3 and above, so I have no idea why it's still not working.

apparntly (as far as i know) The patcher makes the ps2 think its a video (since it reads burnt videos). the firmware acts like a ps2 (or something) letting u play the ga.e
i think i read somewhere that they said that the patched games should still work on modded ps2 and with swap magic.

no probs. i read that u can play the patched versions on ozmodchips site
they said:
'Even if you have a modified PS2, the memor32 will apparently still work. If you have an unmodded PS2, or are about to buy a PS2 (a great time to as well, at time of writing, PS2 Slim Line console is down to about $150 aud!) then this is a no brainer.'
see it here: http://www.ozmodchips.com/memor32-mementoteam-vast-ps2-plug-and-play-modchip-more-p-86.html
yeah there is another forum that some1 said that.
i think they replaced it with another 11 thoug. its cool u dont even need a mc in if u dont want 1
u could also play a game and start it with memor32 then replace with anothr memory card which has ur saved games on and play! personally i would copy them to the memor 32 with 32mb free space is alot more than the 8mb 1 i currently have.
apparently memento updated the site (with a forum) but i cant get to it. tey said to clear my cache or try another browser. it still doesnt work. some1 else also said it worked for a while then went back. i dunno the thread is here: http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=94689

Hey....
I got my Memor 32 yesterday having bought it specifically for playing backups but I have been having problems.
What I did:
1. Formatted the card
2. Plugged it into my PC and installed 1.2e firmware
3. Patched my Guitar Hero III ISO
4. Burned the iso to a dvd
5. Put it in the ps2 along with memor32, and started up
6. Got a 'please insert disc' message
I believe the something is happening because I get a black screen when I turn the PS2 on for 2-3 seconds before I get the no-cd message. I have also tried burning the game with three different kinds/makes of DVD :/
Also, quite a few times after restarting the PS2 it just freezes at the 'Memento' logo and I need to keep restarting until it finally works D:
My PS2 is PAL V14 (I think) and the game is NTSC (I tried one using a ntsc>pal program and one without, neither worked)
Also, what exactly are ELF files and are they any importance to me when trying to play backups?

I have the same version of PS2 as you, v4 PAL, and with the 1.2e firmware almost every game freezes at the memento logo or spits out some error. Have you tried the 1.1 firmware? That one fixed it for me. Not sure about Guitar Hero 3 NTSC, but the PAL version plays fine here.

I just reformatted the card and installed 1.1 firmware, then patched the ISO making sure its all 1.1....
We Love Katamari just this second finished burning at 4x so ill try it now
Im narrowing the problems down to either the DVDs im using or the fact that the .ISOs are NTSC and my PS2 is PAL....Two of the dvd types I used are DVD+R but the other just says DVD R so im not sure which :/

Nope, didnt work :/

I took extra care to, so yeah.
*EDIT*
I checked DVD grades on the three I was using. One set were grade 4 which is rubbish, one were grade 3 and one grade 2.
All DVD+R, is that an ok format to use? I threw out the grade 3 and 4 ones but in theory the 2 should burn decently
Ill try experimenting a little more, burning a few different backups on these a few times to make sure im not getting bad burns.
Also, on the main page it says "Plays imports and original backups" Well mine are backups of imports, so could that be my problem? XD
If I dont get results soon ill make a backup of an original game and see if that works.
*EDIT2*
Heh, I had a Guitar Hero II original that is borrowed but it was scratched to hell when I got it, and the PS2 stops working if I play any more than like 5 songs :(
Looks like PS2 lasers being not as good quality is true, my PC can read the DVD fine and I managed to salvage an ISO with no read errors off it, since its pal (Fingers crossed) it should work and ill know what my problem is.
Brb, about to burn it.
*EDIT3*
Didnt work either :(
Looks like its the DVD type/quality, i've tried around 8 burns in total now with different settings and firmware used, with 3 different games D:

A couple of solutions...maybe...
1) Try -R media
2) If using +R media, check that you changed the booktype when burning, there is info to it somewhere in this thread.
Just on the -R +R media debate, I was just on the **NEW** (woohoo -finally) Memento website and they actually specify -R media.....

Well 1.2e bugs up at the logo screen for me and it refuses to start so I guess it depends on things like your PS2 version.
Its also a good idea to burn non working stuff at least twice, as depending on the quality of your DVDs theres a chance its just a case of a media failure and needs to be rewritten.

I mean boot up the PS2 as normal with the Memor32 inserted, then put in the disc and go from there.
And I've tried the following games with no avail, using second grade discs so I highly doubt they are the problem.
Madden NFL 07 (PAL)

to stop it autorunning press 'X' on the browser. then u see the memory card. then insert the disc. u will see a disc next to the memory card. then click on the disc to play (i dont know if memento allows u to boot like that (from the bowser))

Maybe the patcher isnt the same, and thats the reason. Everyone I have spoken to that has tried it says 1.1 games wont work on 1.2e firmware.
Just try burning one DVD again but patch it with the 1.2e patcher.

Got any other explanation to why 1.1 burns dont work on 1.2e then? :)
FW1.1s patcher didnt have 0.9e on the end in mine, and the australian one I downloaded didnt even have a disc patcher in it :/

I had the exact opposite happen to me. With firmware v1.1 only 2 of 9 burned games worked. When firmware v1.2e was released .. the same backups jumped to 7 working (no i didnt repatch).
I can only guess on the actual reason, but a fair guess would be the number of ps2 versions or the versions of the ps2 dvd playing software. As you may have noticed .. inserting a backup while in the ps2 brower .. will show as a dvd-movie. Obvious Mementoteam use some kinda exploit in the dvdplayer software to make backups run.

i think they make it a dvd movie then the ps2 plays it and the fw on the memor32 converts in back to a game (acts like a ps2??) i dunno really

I also had better compatibility with 1.2e
My version is 79003
The ones i patched with 1.1 also work with 1.2e
What is strange, i see all you guys saying that in the PS2 browser your PS2 regognises the disc as DVD-Video. My PS2 regognises the disc as "Memento disc"!!!

The answer is simple. Some PS2 versions prefer the v1.1 firmware and others do the v1.2. Tell me only one game from my not working compatiblity list what works with 1.2!

It's not only with the newer patch. When i was using 1.1 it was also showing Memento Disc, instead of DVD-Video.
I was able to boot from the browser using both 1.1 & 1.2e

First of all, sorry I was away for such a long time. But I am quite busy atm, because I have got a new project on my hands which involves designing websites and coding them and such :P. I also have ordered a new computer, which is due to today, so I also spent a loads of time on that thing :P
Anyway, the new chart will be un his way. I still have 8 pages to read on to. If anybody wants to help me that will be great! You can add me on msn messenger to work things out. I also have the 'official' unofficial xls sheet, that we could share.
So here is a call out for the great contributors, contact me for my msn address and I will get back on you very soon, with a great new list!
PS. Hmm my stats are dead :S but before they went dead, you guys already used up 120MB of bandwidth.. :| that is alot for only a HTML file :P

I meant Team Memento has abandoned the Memor32.. We haven't gotten any firmware updates since December 14th, and that was just a patch basically for Australia; before that it was November 29th. Now it's almost February :(
Let's just hope if we do get a new firmware it'll be worth the wait...
