Hey.

First Time poster, First time buyer, and wanting to get into this PSP Caper, i am however totally confused by all the information im reading about hacks, cracks, firmwares and "Homebrews" (Moonshine??) so anyways, heres what i dont get:

1. What firmware are the new UK models being shipped with? (the ones off the shelve)

2. How easy is it to play "Backup" games on this model in question?

3. whats all this crap i've been reading, and getting confused about... something called "Fast loader?"

Pardon if im being too thick here - but i've got a PS2, and i had a mk 1 playstation, both of which were chipped (PS2 has a messiah fitted) - and its just a case of burning the game to CD/DVD - and away you go.. - this PSP lack seems complicated.

Example:

i downloaded 18 games + loader from usenet, the NFO states:

All games work without UMD & work with Wi-Fi. (Hookboot games will crash if put in sleep mode so save first)

HOOKBOOT GAMES GO :

eg.

ROOT: hookboot.ini

PSP/GAME: HOOK_BOOT & HOOK_BOOT% & RIDGERACERS (note: HOOK_BOOT folders can be renamed, must have at least 6 letters).

PRX & common folders go in memory stick ROOT

WHAT THE **** this mean?!?! - i feel like homer simpson when he tried to make a BBQ grill, and lost the english manual.. "La Grill?!? what the hell is that??!!

*hides for fear of getting flamed*

You can not do anything as your PSP will be a 1.52 - wait til yoshihiro releases his downgrader ;).

it should downgrade your psp firmware to 1.50 so you can play homebrew ie the things you downloaded.
however there are things to consider, as it is not a simple case of download and degrade.
1. you will need access to a firmware version 1.50 psp as well as your own 1.52.
2. it is unknown at this point when the downgrader will be released, and there is speculation whether it actually will be released.
3. it will be very risky and might have a possibility of turning your psp into a brick.

hrm. - could be a problem then.

my cousin has a US PSP he bought off ebay a while back, but i think he said it has 1.51 on it now.. :(

might have to give this a miss then. - or pay full price for all the games i want. - been watcing the psphacking101.com vidcasts, i liked the idea of playing old SNES/Genesis/Mega Drive games on a PSP - but if i run the risk of turning it into a "Brick" - is it worth it ?

Well yoshihiro is working hard on this including much testing - so when it's out you and the rest of Europe should be ready for homebrew :)

people on ebay uk are advertising 1.5 psp's,which are probaly us ones. mines a 1.5 us psp it will play uk games but these games have a feature where your psp has to be at least 1.52, but i use the Wab version changer(if your not already confused enough lol) which tricks the games into thinking i have a 1.52 psp. mine will only play us movies as well which is no big deal ;)
