My situaton is this: My Wii still plays all of the games I backed up except for any of the backups I've made over the past two weeks or so with one exceptions - the backup I made today.

Basically, FIFA Soccer 08, Mortal Kombat Armageddon, and Resident Evil WERE WORKING after I backed them up, but when I went to play them today the Wii would not read the disc (but it read all backup games before these). To be clear, I was able to play the above 3 games after they were backed up but now I can't.

This would seem to rule out any issues with my burner. In addition, tonight, I was able to backup Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games and the backup plays fine so to be honest I'm not sure what is going on.

At first I thought maybe the Wii got updated somehow by Nintendo (via internet? is that possible) or from a disc (but I thought it asked you if you wanted to upgrade first and I don't recall it doing that) and because of that the latest games wouldn't play. But then, when the Olympic Games backup played fine that shot a hole in that theory.

I guess one thing I'm wondering is if Nintendo somehow did something that allows my backups to play a few times and after that the Wii will no longer recognize it (but my search of the forum show nothing indicating this is even possible). But that is the only thing that would seem to explain me being able to play FIFA Soccer 08, Mortal Kombat Armageddon, and Resident Evil and then all of a sudden not being able to (while still being able to play my old games and the latest burned game Olympic Games).

I guess I'm just confused at this point and don't know if I even have a problem and if I do, what to do about it or to do to prevent any more games from all of a sudden not working?

I looked through several pages of posts and didn't see anything describing this type of thing happening.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

I'm experiencing the SAME thing! At first with Mario Galaxy, it worked flawwlessly...Then after a few days, around 40 or so stars, it started getting disc read errors here and there...sometimes it would pop up right after getting into the game and when I'm on my way to a Galaxy, and other time, right when I click on the wii channel to play it, it would pop up with an error. It worked fine this morning, with the usual few attempts at playing it, then now it won't even say there's a disc in the wii.

I even tried lego star wars, which I played the other day fine, and it won't recognize it. But I popped in an original gamecube game, And it worked perfectly.

I say Nintendo is screwing with us, much like Microsoft said they would to people who pirated vista.

I'm really wondering if anyone else is experiencing this also. SOMETHING IS GOING ON but I think a few more people have to experience this issue for more threads to appear about it.

The games I mentioned that weren't working STILL are not working today. Mario and Sonic Olympic games IS still working (this is the most recent backup I made). All my earlier games are working fine.

- The media is from the same 50 pk of DVD-R's I've used for every backed up game.
- I have never updated the firmware on the mod chip (I don't even know what mod chip I have).
- I did not do any "system updates" from Nintendo until today which is several days AFTER I realized the 8 games I backed up and played stopped working.

I'm not technical in nature which is why this forum is so helpful but I can't help but think that Nintendo has figured out a way to allow a backup game to play a select number of times and then it will realize it is a backup and not recognize it. The only problem with this theory is, as I said, I didn't do any system updates during the time period these backed up disks were made and played (no system update via the internet or via a game disc - unless they no longer ask if you want to do a system update). If they no longer ask you if you want to do a system update, then it is possible the game disc updated something?

It's a little embarassing tyring to diagnosis this given my level so I hope others chime it. What I can tell you is I reallyl don't believe it is my media or my burner because as I said, I had a 100% success rate with all backups, the older backups all play, this select 8 games all in a row stopped working after previously playing, and I've successfully backed up Olympic Games since the 8 games stopped working.

I will let you know of Sonic Games stops working, but something odd is going on.

Please, let me know if anyone else has something similar happening.

Thanks!

I'll take a tin foil hat if that will help (that scene in Signs was too funny).
