Are you suppose to do the Smg update when you pop the disk in? (I have NTSC wii and wiikey chip)

i have a pal wii with wiikey1.9g. Can i update wii's firmware through the smg disc or should i connect my wii to the internet to update it?

I don't think it is ever recommended that you update from a game that is different to your console region. However, it may differ for the smg game, in this forum pal users have updated from the smg game using a specific method to avoid duplicated channels, but nobody has yet mentioned anything about getting bricked i don't think.
