a co-worker and i are looking at modding our wiis but don't know which keys to use. i see the wiikey is a lot cheaper than some of the other ones, is there a reason for that?

Don't buy a clone wiikey, if it's too cheap, it's likely a clone.

wiikey is the best if you also want to play gamecube games on your wii. it has audiofix and forces the correct videomode, no other chip does these 2 things together :)

dont order from foundmy, they are scammers. buy from modchipcentral for example.

what's wrong with using a wiikey clone? I'm using one now and it works with the updates. Even SMG works. Clones are fine, just make sure you get it from a reliable source and you should be ok.

Be carefull if you buy a clone as a lot of people cannot update the firmware. I have an original and mine updated fine. I put the same disk in my mates wii (he has a clone) and i get the check connections error.

You got lucky with your clone. Not all clones are the same, not all work. Recommending a clone is bad advice.

I have a wiikey, and i wouldn't really ever change it. Plus they have gone down in price quite alot. If you want to be secure, do not get the clone (alot work fine, alot don't, then everybody points fingers at it for being a clone e.g Oh yours doesn't work because it's a clone - atleast by not getting a clone you can eliminate that factor). This place is very reliable, i normally get all my things from here:

I've read posts on this forum and other forums that there are people with authentic wiikeys who can't update the firmware as well. Maybe we both got lucky? who knows. I agree a clone is a "you get what you pay for" chip, hence why I put in there if he does decide to go with a clone, to get from a reliable source and not some shady site.

I don't think my recommendation to buy a clone is bad advice. That's like saying someone shouldn't buy generic drugs because it's inferior to the name brand that costs hundreds of dollars more. Just don't buy generics drugs from underground, black market places.

And to Diecast, you might want to see what chipset you have in the Wii before buying a mod chip. That's the first thing you should verify. If you have a newer Wii, then most likely it's a D2C chip and you will need a D2Ckey for your mod chip and not a wiikey (including clone). you shouldn't have problems updating firmware, but if you want to be on the safe side, go with a real wiikey. But even then, depending on your soldering skills and how the chip is installed, you may still have problems updating it. That's the chance you take.

Good luck
