How would i update my modchip to the latest version?

I don't know what version it is now... :(

I didn't update my wiikey until today to 1.9g just to play mario galaxy.. you dont need to update unless your playing diff region games imo. if its working fine to play backups and ur not gonna be playing mario galaxy.. just leave it

Would i need to update the modchip if im manually updating the firmware to 3.1J?

Mine's is at 2.0J at the moment.

well you really need to know what modchip you have in your wii.. software for updating it is not universal.

You burn disc, put disc in, run update

If you need a guide for that then you shouldn't be doing it at all.
