Im after getting a cyclowiz v2 and have a European launch wii that I got from a friend, just wondering what the story with fw is? Do I have to have a certain fw version on the wii itself? Newest game played on it is Zelda and it was never connected to the net.
Can I just install the chip, flash chip with latest fw (thats supports Mario) and away I go? or is there more to it?

Cyclowiz will work on any PAL firmware, however the later games requires you to have the latest firmware installed, since a few of us don't connect our Wii's to the net, some of the latest games that are release will have the firmware on the disc that is required to the play the game.
You will know this when you try to play the game, it will first ask you to upgrade your Wii firmware, but beware, only upgrade firmware from you own region, ie: PAL, if you put in a US game that ask you to upgrade your Wii firmware you will have double channels on your main screen.
Even though some Wii owners have upgraded their PAL Wii firmware with an US firmware, there are no reports of any problems except for the double channels but its best not to do so.
Yes you can install the chip, flash the chip to the latest version (v3.6Beta) and start playing your backups, however some games will require the latest Wii firmware (v3.1E) to play, so I suggest you to upgrade your Wii to the latest firmware. However if you want to play Mario Galaxy USA on your PAL, this gets a little tricky as you need to do some procedures first before you can play Mario US on your PAL console, I'm sure if you search hard enough you will find how to play Mario US on a PAL console without the need to upgrade the firmware that is on the disk, besides Mario US and Metroid US, all other backups will work fine.

I'm not 100% sure on this one but someone correct me wrong.
Cyclowiz v1 does not support D2B chips whereas v2 does, I think the v2 uses a different chip board. You will need to find out what chip is in your Wii.
When upgrading the firmware on the cyclowiz, the RESET button is used, for whatever reason this doesn't work, then you will need to use a GC controller.
Hope this helps
